Whats all required for a system?

I've never had a sound system in my car before. Just the plain old stock one that came in my car from the factory. I want to get one now nothing like super great thats going to cost tons of money. I just want one I could use daily thats cost a couple hundred or something like that. I'm sure theres plenty people on here that can tell me or show me what I need. :D Reps will be given

I haven't had a system for a long time, but here what I remember. Power line from battery to amp, amp, subs, sub box, speaker wire to use from amp to subs, RCA cable from head unit to amp, capacitor. I might miss something, if someone could fill it in for me.

are you looking for actual gear reccomendations, or just a general list of what you need?

I will assume you need everything from head unit back. With only a couple hundred listed as your budget you will most likely have to get alot of stuff used, but I will run through a few things.

Head Unit, I love eclipse units but they can be on the pricey side. For your needs I would look more into the midline Panasonic units http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3720

Front speakers, A decent set of coax would do for most people, unless you have factory components. Coax, Alpine type R's arent too bad, either are the midline Memphis. http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=5243

Rear speakers, if they arent blown, leave them be, and no nee to amp them

All of this is just general reccomendations though. With a better idea of budget, and what companies you like/disline I'm sure alot of people can offer more advise.


And a single amp wiring kit with 4awg power wire. No need to worry about a cap or anything like that.

If you are just looking for the basic "system" do you mean just like a subwoofer setup?

If so, you need the subwoofer or woofers that you want. The appropriate enclosure for those subs. An amplifier to power those (more than likely a mono subamp), you need 2ch RCA's if you are just running a mono ch amp, and you need an amplifier power kit. If you have a factory radio, you also need a 2ch line-output converter.

dude, its really simple... you need a cd player with rca outputs, a remote wire, a ground wire and a power wire which all go to the amp which you will also need. you need the subs and a sub box. its nothing really big. you can use your stock door speakers unless you want to go big with it. you can go to the kenwood factory outlet and get a 10inch sub for $59 which is actually a good one. it doesnt take rocket science and all the others are blowing it out of the water. give me a pm if you need any more help. i use to install systems and wouldnt mind helping you out.

id go with a aftermarket cd player a 4 channel amp 2 channels for the front speaker and bridge the rears for a single sub and run the rear speakers off the radio power that would get the best sound for a budget

I plucked my high speakers from a home audio box. Best sounding highs i have heard IMO, not sure of brand tho. FREE!

A little tuning and tweeking on the head unit w/ the crossover on the mids and highs and i got a clean ass system for 100 bucks! I say 100 cause that radio is 4 years old, so im not really counting it. And i say clean because im not riding down the road beatin down the block. Everything compliments eachother nicely. Its just a matter of who you know and what you can score!!!

if you want to hear it from someone else...just go to any car audio shop near you (area 41, sound sensations, circuit city, best buy) and they will tell you what you need.

In my experience, do not use Best Buy. they can't install a stereo to save their lives. they offer sub-par installations at a ridiculous rate although they warranty the install. ive never had problems with my install except that cosmetically, it's hideous and the trim around the install area wont stay on.

Ok right now I have a 10'' kicker impulse sub in a box and I have a Sony XM-C1000 6 channel amp and some Pyramid crossover thing ( not sure wtf it is for) I already have a after market head unit installed in my car. What is everything else that required to get this crap up and running?

I got all this stuff for free thats why I'm just using it.Is there kits that I can just buy all the wiring in one or do I have to buy them seperate? I do not know what a 6 channel amp is but its the only amp I have currently. IS it to much for just what I want?

6 channel is just that, 6 output channels. It will be fine to use, but you will have quite a few open terminals on it.

You can buy a 4awg amp kit. That will have RCS's, power and ground wire, and a remote wire.

Just like everyone else said...just get a wiring kit. Power the sub from the battery (& an inline fuse) with the usually red wire. Black is ground from the amp to a metal body ground. Blue small gauge wire to connect the amp to the headunit (remote). RCA's (usually blue and clear with connectors on the end) to go from your amp to the back of your headunit. Last but not least is speaker wire to connect from the amp to the subs. Easy work and a wiring kit comes with all of the necessary wiring that you will need.

Go to Best Buy and purchase an AMP Wiring Kit. Comes with everything you need, very simple.
