I've been told to get an underdrive pulley by some of my homeboys, but on the other hand some say no.... what do u guys think? should I get one or no?

if you are running an audio system you will drain your battery. if you aremgoing all motor then it can help a little

Drain the battery? HOw?

it UNDERDRIVES your other components like the alternator- thus draining your battery if you are running a large audio setup. If you don't have subs or any big draw of power then you are ok.

Id read up a bit more them make your decision

Assuming a system will drain a battery, if the car is running a Underdrive pulley might be jumping the gun. What kind of amperage is the system running? It is quite possible to safely run a system on an Underdriven alternator, there are too many unknown factors to accurately answer the question.

In terms of performance, the gains are minimal anyway. I agree with JDMjames, read up some more and decide if its really worth the money to begin with.

could always get the underdrive pulleys and just wire up a spare battery in the trunk for your system...

You could also run it with Optima battery. I've done it before, worked just fine. I had UR crank pulley, power steering pulley and alternator pulley.

Extra battery's mean extra weight. Adding that much weight takes from whatever performance the pulley added. I understand the motor has less mass to move, and the benefits in throttle response, quickness of revs, but ultimately i think the original posters intentions are to have a faster car...

Ultimately read up, maybe even find another modification inthe same price range and run with that. Save up and gets a cam(s) IMO...

Do you have a stock motor?

If he was worried about weight, he wouldn't have put a system in.

i thought about that while posting, and knew it would be brought up. Without further information this thread should be over.

None the less, an extra battery ( depending on the system ) could weigh every bit as much as the system itself. Regardless, we're comparing the car how it sits now, to how it would after the pulley install...

if youve got a b16 ive got a lightweight pulley ill trade even for a stocker

If you wanna gain an extra 5hp go for it. But you should lose the system if you are worried about speed.

I love the internet. Tons of BS information. Here is the bottom line. Now - if you have a HUGE, and I mean HUGE audio system then it's possible that it will cause a strain on the alternator WHEN the system is really pounding. HOWEVER, modern alternators have this thing called a voltage regulator built in that compensates for this. How do I know? B/c I ran Air Ride on a stock CB7 w/ not 1, but TWO 3/4 horse VIAIR compressors and when they kicked on, literally in less than a second the regualtor did what it was supposed to do and bumped up the amps. With that said, I will tell you this.... MAKE THE CHOICE between speed or audio. I am a musician, so I always have a system that imaged and staged correctly, but you can get that w/ replacing the door speakers and having an amped deck. Awesome sound, w/ none of the weight of heavy ass subs.

Now - those are the FACTS - here is some OPINION. Lightened pullies > underdrive pullies. Weigh your underdrive pully against the weight of your stock pulley - u might be in for a surprise. ;)

If you have your heart set on audio, then call this guy - he is the END ALL to alternator issues and can beef up your stock unit. Good luck:
