So a family friend of mine has a toyota corolla. Theyve had to pop start the car (so 5 spped obviously) for the last three months or so. Today their car died in a turning lane and i just got back from towing it for them. I tried to pop start the car in 1st, 2nd and reverse. It would catch OCCASIONALLY like it was trying to start and a few times it would but it would only run about 2-3 seconds then wouldnt try anymore. The few times that it did get going, it sounded VERY weak almost as if it had a blown head gasket. When i was up under the hood, the head felt VERY warm and she said that she had only driven it for about 7 miles before it shut down.

these are the questions:

1.)Obviously the starter is toast. How much should it cost to get replaced (5 speed 98 corolla for those of you who wprk at a shop and would like to make some money)

2.) Ive already checked the oil. There is oil in it and its obviously not locked up internally. Tomorrow im going to check spark and fuel and see whats up but is there anything else i should look for?

Thanks for any help and info you guys can provide. If it is a issue that i cannot figure out, I woukd like to help your site sponsors out instead of taking it somewhere else but if i can get the car to be driven there, that would help her pockets also.:goodjob:

weird on a corolla.. I had a 98 , that thing is still running like new.. 220K miles.
I bought it used, with like 70K and sold it w/ 180K miles to my cousin and I'm telling you, it runs like new. Never gave me any problems.. Up until this date, no issues. damn toyotas are rock solid.
