Beginner Stereo setup questions

I'm planning on finally getting around to fixing my stereo since its messed up. But I don't like replacing parts with stock stuff. At the moment, I'm only looking at replacing the stock speakers, tweeters, and head unit. I don't think I'll have any problems installing these, but I have a question about the tweeters in the doors. The two back doors have small tweeters up by the door handle. The one on the passenger side back door is dead, and the one on the driver side back door is pretty close since it goes ballistic when there is any hint of bass. How can I fix/replace these? Oh and what is required to install an amp and subwoofer setup?

I figured as much for the tweeters.... what kind of wiring can I expect when installing an amp & sub? I think I may just replace the speakers and put the rest of my tax return into my Beetle.

Okay, I need some advice and opinions on this. I picked out some speakers that good reviews and a headunit that I think is nice:

The tweeters in my car are messed up so I'm just going to disconnect and ignore them.

My budget is around $500 including the above and I want an amp & sub as well. Any suggestions?

crutchfield sells replacement tweeters from infinity, kenwood, and a few other if you dont want to spend teh money on a full component set.

Well, I want to upgrade the stereo anyways. It sounds bad. I just need to pick a cheap but decent amplifier and subwoofer, and I need to make up my mind if I want to power the speakers with the amplifier. If I only use the amp to power the sub and leave the speakers powered by the headunit, will I have any trouble connecting the speakers to the amp instead of the headunit later on?

Edit: One more thing - there is a sub/amp combo on crutchfield that I am looking at.

The amp is a 2 channel. I know I'm a noob @ stereo stuff and I want to keep the left and right channels separate to make sure it really is stereo when I hook the speakers up to it eventually. Will there be any problems with this?

adding a 4 or 2 channel amp in the interior speakers later should be a problem all you will need is a power/ground distribution block, some new RCA, and some speake wire. Is space a/an issue because most bandpass boxes are pretty big. you could probably get the same sound if not louder with a single sub in a ported box tuned for that specific sub.

Dont get that for your jetta. First of all visionik is kinda screwy and second of all that is a bandpass box. The ports and everything are intended for an suv or something without a closed trunk. If I see something I will let you know.

u shouldnt, most aftermarket headunits (unless total crap) have enough output for stock-size aftermarket speakers.

That sucks. I dont really think your car is slammed though.

But as halfwit said an aftermarket head unit will have no problem powering new speakers. And I suggest alpine.

Okay well I ended up getting Pioneer TS-G1641R speakers and a Pioneer DEH-1900MP headunit. That and my car isn't leaking oil anymore. Kyle, I dropped it another inch. lol

Eh, I like it. The head unit matches the dash well, sounds good, and has the features I want. The speakers sound good, fit underneath the stock speaker grill and were fairly cheap. :goodjob:
