Red-eye reduction beam from lamp compared to strobe from actual speedlight on Rebel XT. Beam is easier for subjects to distinguish from actual flash firing. (Less eye blinking effect).Compatibility with older lenses including manual focus Nikkor lenses (AI-P and D type), and non-CPU.Higher resolution LCD playback monitor with 130,000 pixels compared to 115,000 on Rebel XT.Exposure compensation +/- 5 EV compared to +/- 2 EV.

Hmm someone can read DPReview. I haven't had any of those issues and neither has speedminded.

I dont wish to partake in a war between Nikon Vs. Canon but out of the box the sensors on the Nikon do have an advantage over Canon. It has been proven that the Canon LCDs show more blueish hues and colors that arent true matches to what you would see on a LCD monitor.


But both Nikon and Canon have great equipment.

Nice setup, wish i had gone for an xt, i stuck with the nikon group, either way you made a good choice. figured out what your gonna shoot mostly? you also might consider a wide angle lense at some point, a 12-24mm is usually a good complement. never know when you'll want that wide shot. (theres also a thing about the lenses and sensors on dslr's are off by some 1.5x scale, so a 24mm lense will give you the same equivelent shot as a 35mm slr film camera.)

Now that I agree with. It seems that if you are on this board you are either Pro-Nikon or Pro-Canon. There is no inbetween. Your first post was typical response to another brand purchase. Personally I have shot with both Canon and Nikon and liked both. I just prefer the canon. :goodjob:

As for the color issues, we've shot the D200 next to Canon during all day shoots [even using a light meter] and I prefer the Canons look...but honestly it doesn't matter b/c between Raw conversion and Photoshop you can make any picture look however you want.

What it comes down to it use both...borrow, rent, or whatever and play with both for a day or weekend. I don't like the way the Nikon feels, it doesn't fit my hands. If you're like some of us, your camera becomes an attachment to you for the better part of the day. It's like shoes, you can have the best shoe in the world...helium filled soles with built-in flux capacitor and everything else imagineable that enables you to fly but none of it matters if doesn't fit.

I chose Canon mainly because that is what I am used to and have used for years. Each has their benefits and flaws. It just comes down to personal preference. I am upgrading from a Canon A620 and a Canon S40 before that.

I did not do a package deal. I pieced this setup together based on the best quality lenses that I could get for my budget. I also got to see Jaime's setup, which was a help......except he has the pimp daddy f/2.8 version of the 70-200 L lens.

I will be playing around with the setup and will post pics....the ones I am not ashamed to post. :D If I can only get past this cold I have, I will be fine.

Very nice Rich. I see you heeded some advice......very nice young man..... :D Seriously, you'll love that setup. Once you get comfortable with the camera itself, you'll start tweeking with this setting and that setting and before you know it you'll be shooting great shots.

Anytime you want to play, call me and we'll go out to shoot somewhere.

BTW guys, the Canon vs Nikon thing is really moot. Both are at the top of the heap when it comes to DSLRs, and I think everyone will agree on that. Once you get comfortable with either, that's when you start taking some great shots. Hand a good photographer either, and eventually they'll take great shots with either. That means to me it's more about the person behind the camera than the camera itself in this debate. Yes, you can microdisect and put it under an electron microscope to see that Nikon has 2 less dust particles per thousand on a 10 mega pix shot at f2.8 on a cloudy day back in '32......but really does that even matter in the grand scheme of things if the pic SUCKS....... :lmfao:
