N/A catless cars...how?

I was thinking about getting an rx-8, but I have little experience with n/a cars. When I removed all the cats from my last wrx, the check engine light went off until I got an O2 sensor fix. Would the same thing happen if i removed all the cats off my rx-8, and would it really help that ,much anyway. I know that getting a good tune with a fuel controller (ie., Apexi s-afc, greddy e-manage) helps out catless turbo cars with getting the most power without running too rich or lean. Would getting a Apexi s-afc have the same benefits on an rx-8 as it would have on a turbo car in terms of controlling the fuel-air ratio?

with a rotary i would think it helps a whole lot more compared to your Wrx.
And most likely the check engine light will come on because its a newer car. And you will probably shoot flames, no pistons ftw :)

Well, I don't really know why you would want to remove your cat; in an aritcle I read, you only made 1 hp over a high-flow cat.

Take the emmisisons controls off of your late model rotary. The goverment will find you, since without cats you now have a race car, and destroy your car. Also go ahead and put that emanage on there. A standalone is exactly what you need to be a real street racer.

Its really not gonna give you any noticeable hp. Even if the car has all the NA bolt ons imaginable todays cats dont really hurt performance much.

They make O2 simulators for obd2 cars too ya know. Dunno about mazda but ford and chevy sims are easy to get.

I drive a Honda, and replacing the stock cat (which is super restrictive) for a Hi-Flow makes a big difference. But yeah in an article I read the hi-flow made 5 WHP/TQ over a stock, but a test pipe/no-cat only made 1 more WHP/TQ; this was on a B16/Si.

On a turbo car I'd never run a cat though, it'd get clogged fast from all the carbon that turbo setups put out.

not so much the carbon but hte fact that going in/out of boost constantly changes air fuel ratio which changes the exhaust temperature and they cat cant work efficiently
