View Full Version : Misc Plane tickets or driving
Ok I have no idea where to post this damn thing at. I was wondering which would be cheaper driving all the way to San Jose, CA or just taking a plane I've checked all the airline sites and I found that 382$ and some change is the cheapest I can find. I am wondering which would be cheaper to fly or drive? Any help will be greatly appreciated! :bump: :D

flying
think of it this way:
it takes about 35 hours give or take to drive out there (one way)
its aprox 5038 miles round trip, so lets say you get 30mpg thats ~168 gallons of gas. we will go with the national avg of 2.35 right now for the cheap shit. so itll cost ya $394.80 in gas alone.
not to mention hotels for the 2 nights you will be staying, lets say you get a room for $50 each nite, thats another $100
not to mention time off work that you could be making money 4 days of work making 15 is $480 you are losing
and lets not forget food, say 5 bucks a meal 5 x 6 is $30
last but not least god forbid something happens to your car like break down or some shit $$$unknown
ok so lets weigh the costs of each
plane ticket - $382
driving - $1004.80 (including lost wages if you're making $15/hr)
and dont forget the diminished value of your car due to miles put on by the trip
i only included 4 days of lost wages driving (although it will more than likely take you 6 days roundtrip) due to the fact that flying you will lose a day of wages as well each way
not to mention time off work that you could be making money 2 days of work at 40hrs making 15 is $1200 you are losing
Ya lost me right here, how does $15/hr for 2 days equate to 1200?

...and you definitely won't want to be on the road for that long.

Woooooooo I can vouch for that! haha. We went to San Bernadino to race Glen Helen a few years ago. Fuck that drive!!!
I've also flown out, and drove back with my uncle when he moved to PA from Sacremento.
From here to So Cal is 200 miles shorter roughly, than from PA to there lol.

I was kind of wondering how someone goes about working 40hrs in one day. :D

flying is def ur best bet. plus even if u leave two dasy before ull still get those 2 days extra to enjoy rather than planting ur ass in a car seat for those extra days..

think of it this way:
No. Think of it this way:
A travel agent, Hulud is not.
So do not listen/read anything about what he says/types about flying.
And about his thoughts on the driving aspect? He drives a Miata. Do you want advice on a road trip from someone who drives a Miata? Seriously? Later, QD.

I have flown out to LA and driven back (bought a car).
Fly out there. Trust me. I go to SF every year. I fly. It is easier and cheaper.

Yea man...the fourteen hour drive to Jersey is a pain enough. I couldn't spend more than a day in a car.
