I have seen it. It's been called the Lemans when it was a concept, but they just change it to the r8. Looks hot. I don't know who will buy it. A $100K Audi. Someone who wants a $100K car that isn't practical will something else IMO.

That car is hot cake.. Problem is... The Media in this country is stupid as hell.
AUDI is up there with all HIGHER end cars... but since the media doesnt help it keeps AUDI cars more on the DL. AUDI's have a strong following.. is like a quite cult...
Since owning my TT I have done alot of reading and learned alot about AUDI's and now have alot of respect for them and consider them to be up there with the "so called" higher end cars.

I saw pics of the R8 a few month back and I think it looks hot....

I agree that audi is up there with other high end luxury cars and sport sedans but once again they have not made any high dollar coupes.

not completely true..S4 has runs a lil over 50k$ the RS6 and RS4 was 96k$ along with the previous generation S8 and S6..a lot of these sedans the states got shafted on because Audi would of been pretty much competing with themselves.(RS4-B5)

before i was transferred to Jaguar, Audi had brought in the new V10 powered S8 and S6. The 1st shipments were pre-sold in advance and the when new ones arrived, they were off the showroom floor immediately.
hell we could barely keep any RS4's in stock.

Audi has no problem selling 50K plus car, and they will have no problem selling the R8..

This car is an everyday sports car/ near super car.

Brochures are availabe, people are ready to put down deposits. not practical the car defines the true essence of AUdi.we all know Audi has recorded countless motorsport victories on race tracks all over the world. Sorry I said sedan I meant coupe. But through the context of the post you can tell what I meant.

I said was they have not made a coupe for over $50K. I know they have made sedans that have been successfull in excess of $50K.

With your logic you could have argued that VW owns Audi, and audi has been very successfull in selling four door luxury car's and thus the VW Phaeton should have been a success. Which was not the case.

it sells in europe, but here in America has a different marketplace mentality - in that car segment, a lot of people want to buy badges, status symbols, rather than engineering. In the USA, folks pay extra to get all the badging on their Lexus gold-plated by the dealership. In Europe, folks won't take delivery of the car until the dealership removes the badging from the back of it.

The problem for the Phaeton in the US is that it's a VW. Period. The market won't accept a VW as a luxury marque, in part because of VW's other non-luxury offerings, and because the dealer network is not set up to handle the white glove service requirements of that market.

There's a reason that Honda, Toyota, and Nissan all set up different brands to handle their luxury car lines VW already had Audi that could fill that role in the US, and I can only assume that it was Piech's ego that pushed the Phaeton as a VW branded vehicle. :2cents:

My dad has a Phaeton it's badass. I remember I saw a letter from VW last year and it was a discontinuation announcement. I just laughed. It was an awesome car that america didn't pick up on. It's all around better than the LS430.

Actually they have and do. IIRC the s4 cabriolet is over $50k, and the rs4 cabriolet only sold in europe is definitely over $50k easy.

i was talking to a guy at Audi one day who owns a Phaeton. He tells me how people at his country club laughed when they heard he payed that amount of money for a VW.( he had the W12) but were so shocked to see the quality and craftmanship behind it. (it even made a some Jaguar purchased pissed that his car cost just as much and couldnt even touch that VW). they all ended up loving the car, but always told him he should of spent the money on an A8 or a Benz. :???:

thats the problem with the US people have an image of a brand w/o even owning one... you can't compare a 20k vw to a 50k; or 100k audi for that matter. this car was done for the statement alone so audi can say we can build a luxury sports car!

My experience with VW/Audi has been VERY hit and miss. On the same day at Jim Ellis I had driven two B5 1.8T 5 speeds back to back and one was tight as a drum and the other was riddled with problems. A friends '98.5 2.8Q went from being amazing at 55K (when he bought it) to be just bothersome to drive at around 70K as he still tries to sell it.

A BUNCH of fools do not know how to work on these cars either.
