I have to agree with you here, BMW owners are actually nice until you say that XXX car is better then theirs.
The reason I don't like BMWs (6 cyl at least), is because of the fact that the head cracks when it is overheated. A few month ago at work we replaced an engine in a 2002 325 which had a cooling problem and was overheated 3 times, 3rd one cracked the head. And who would design a race engine with 3 timing chains? Stupid imo.
So I would go with nissan on this one.

I still do like BMWs though, they are fun to drive.

Well BMW quality is not fantastic but its not terrible either. As for race engines, well, Gordan Murray did ask BMW to produce the V-12 for their McLaren, he asked for 550hp and got 627..
Mclaren>any freaking car so got to give huge props to BMW here.....

Nissan quality ain't great either, they are usually below the industry average. Infiniti though is always in the top 8 or so.....

Her father is very wealthy and could have just about any car he wanted I'm sure. You know what he drives? A LEXUS, although his is the "luxury" version . You know what her mother drives? A Lexus too, again the "luxury" edition since they don't believe in the non-luxury division of the company . We sold our M3 and bought a Supra and made it into an 8 sec race car with the money on stock pistons and rings....O and might I add, that we did that because we raced a Supra in our M3 and got our asses waxed by it. That was the end of that. We paid $60k for the car and waited 6 months on a waiting list for it.

Case in point the 330 vs IS 350 and 4 others...
The 3 won by one point over the IS 350 in Car and Driver.
Some people added up the scores and C and D added them wrong, it was a damn tie.

The funny thing is in Europe, BMW gets its ass handed to it by Porsche in ever mag (CAR, EVO, etc) so I guess its all relative.

A. Not everyone makes the same amount of $.
B. Many people are not satisfied with basic transportation from point A to point B.
C. Although ignorance is not always bliss, it sure can be when arguing that someone has to justify spending "too much" for their car, especially when the person arguing cannot afford that particular car, or is intentionally misinformed about that car by others who cannot afford it.
