Default question about the brakebooster air hose that connects to the manifold jettavr6

[B]i have a 98 jetta vr6 the brake booster air hose that connects to the manifold popped out yesterday when i started the car i guess it was already loose. i put it back on then followed it and saw that there's a nipple that had nothing on it and it was sucking in air i just want to know if something popped out from there too or is it suppose to do that. this is my first Volkswagen so im not familiar with it yet thanks for the help
