1997 Ford Explorer
VIN: PMed to mods, available upon request
Mileage: 175000 (give or take)
Price:$2800... system pulled.
Motor: 4.0 v6, auto trans
The GOOD: Pretty clean body for a 9 year old car. Some little things here and there, but it's a great daily driver. Motor pulls strong and isn't making any odd noises. Interior is clean (tan leather), FULLY LOADED.. This thing has as many options as the eddie bauer, but it doesn't have the badges. Power driver/passenger seats, leather, directional, sunroof, pw, pl, keyless entry, security system, factory amp, all of it. NEW COOPER COBRA GT TIRES (white letter) , new driver's side interior door handle from dealer (they're known for breaking apparently), new rear brake rotors/pads/driver's side caliper
The BAD: The transmission slips. It only does it when changing gears (usually 3-4). Once it's in gear, it stays solidly in gear. Occasionally revs really high in between. I haven't had the time to chase this down, and have been told that the best fix is to replace the trans, which is why the price is down from NADA/KBB. Also, it needs a new A/C compressor before the A/C will work. The A/C blows cold for about 5 mins, then loses the coolness. Windows down rocks my face off.The guys at the dealership said it was because of the clutch on the A/C compressor, and that with 170some odd thousand miles on, putting on just a new clutch would probably kill the compressor. You should be able to find a new one pretty cheap in a junkyard. Ford only sold eleventy billion of these things. Also, dent in the back tailgate, rear windshield wiper is missing, and latch for glass is missing. Latch for glass and windshield wiper are just under $100 (for both) from dealership.
The MODS: This is my daily driver, I'm not in a huge rush to sell, but I do need to eventually... dad won't pay insurance on it AND pay snobby art school tuition, so one's gotta give. Since it was my daily, I didn't do major mods on it... Cranked up the front torsion bars 1/2" to give it a more even/slightly more agressive stance (the front of the truck can be lowered/raised about 2" each way from stock with the torsion bars). TRUE dual exhaust... no split. The header on the SOHC v6 is split off into 3 and 3 pairs, and the piping for the exhaust is a true dual all the way back. Two magnaflow glasspacks and polished slant tips. I'm sure you guys have heard it at the Varsity. Nice and deep and agressive, not raspy. AUDIO Pioneer Premiere P8 (DEH P880MP) CD/CD-R/W/MP3/WMA head unit, rockford fosgate wires, 2 12" Lightning Audio subs, random 600w amp. This system hits HARD. Sounds ridiculously good, which is why I kinda wanna keep it... so buy the truck without it, k?![]()
NADA on this truck is $4075, and my prices are pretty damn firm. Truck will have all decals/stickers removed when a sale is arranged, unless you want them left on. (ImportAtlanta.com stickers on rear windows, rainbow on back glass, equal rights symbol on back tailgate, SCAD sticker under brake light)
PICS ARE FROM BEFORE NEW TIRES, by the way
And before you guys go trying to "call me out", yes, this is the same explorer that tattoodlude was selling for $1000 a few months ago. Yes, I paid approximately that. No, that deal is not still in existence. I got a great deal, I realize that, and shoot me if you wish for selling it for more than I bought it for. It's still under NADA value, and I've done work on it since I got it. Soooo stfu![]()
On to the good stuff![]()
