I have raced 2 2005+ (1 was a 2008) Mustang GT's from a 40 roll and we were dead even up to about 120 and I pulled on him and continued to pull until I hit my max of 160. On take-off, those same Mustang's would beat me.
depending on the year, a stock 5.0 GT, if it has the h/o motor is a high 14 sec car. a newer GT(4.6 3v) runs high 13s. so either your G is a turd or your buddies car isnt stock. i find it very hard to believe that a stock 5.0 gt, with either a 2.73 or 3.31 gear can spin the tires all the way to 40mph.

My b.s flag is raised.

edit- i saw that you posted its a 89. with that being said, my buddy had a 91 fox with FRPP heads, 4.30 gear, all your favorite bolt ons, and slicks and only went 8.6s in the 1/8th mile. they do make some good torque but they are by no means, ungodly.
