    Question I lost to a 5.0 :)

    Ok so this happened about two weeks ago on a sat. night... Me and a buddy of mine were going to the local car hangout(barrett). So we got on the highway and as soon as I get over into the fast lane I see this mustang come flyin up on me... I didn't think nothing of it, so I passed a couple of cars and got over for him to pass me... Well when I got over he pulled up next to me and just stayed there, while trying to get me to race him... First off im not the type to just not race someone, I don't care what car it is, i dont mind loosing at all.... So I hear him drop into 4th, so I droped into 4th as well.... So he hit it and I looked down and we weren't goin that fast so I went to 3rd and we stayed right next to each other for a good 10-12 sec. until I came up on a truck(don't know mph)... So me and my buddy just looked at each other like WTF? I just figured he'd walk me.... So i got behind him in the fast lane and we passed the semi-truck and then I got next to him again and now I had to convince him to race me, cause he didn't want to again... So after riding next to him for awhile I hear him drop 4th, so we slowed down to like 50-55mph. I hear him drop into 3rd this time, as I did too, and I honked 3 times... So we took off both in 3rd this time and from about 55-105 he got me by about 2 maybe 3 cars... I was pretty happy just a stock (SOHC)F22b1, with intake, exhaust, and a VAFC..... Idk what was done to the 5.0 it was pretty nice(white) and all I know is it had exhaust and 5 speed..... I thought a 5.0 would have beat the single cam a little better, idk what do u guys think?????

    Those older 5.0's usually arent that fast with just bolt ons... they need alot of help.

    yeah older 5.0's if they are on stock gears just make alot of noise after 85mph....good run for a SOHC

    If they are well put together, then they get get up and go.

    Stock 5.0's make very little power until the later models but then they didn't make that much.

    yeah 87-88 didnt have maf i dont believe(dont quote me on it) they had dense air or someting then in 89 they swapped to maf and mine with exhaust and underdrive pullies should have been in the 13s but due to traction issuses ran 14s at the track...on the street though it was stout... but there are still slow ones we bet one in a 1500 silverado from a dig one night quite funny...good job

    Its a good feeling when you hand somebody their rear in a single cam.

    You should boost, it's a crazy difference. At 8psi i doubled my hp.

    well, when you're only running about 110whp to start with....

    LOL i'm kidding. either way thats a good gain with only 8psi. it would take me about 10psi or so... maybe a LITTLE more... to double mine

    305 specifications
    305 ci 9.1:1 220hp@4200rpm 275 lb/ft @ 3200rpm

    not bad to have a 115 hp less.........
    ive made a couple 5.0 owners upset too.....

    when my '88 was stock i thought it was the shit. Lost a lot of races then, i got humbled by a turbo volvo STATION WAGON. wouldnt have been so bad if the dude took the car seat out it.

    I beat an also f22 accord the other day with all bolt ons and intake on his car with my piece of shit 1.5 del slow...people say it's the driver?

    Anyways when 5.0's come nxt to my ricey del sol and take off they are quick as shit...

    ford 5.0= 302...........
    chevy 5.0 is a 305 right?........ just a little difference in the stats there not that it really matters. man i miss my accord

    Yes as far as the size of each company's 5.0, no as to them being similar. The 302 is built much differently than the 305 and has a lot more potential. The 305 is basically a truck motor with good low end torque, but no high RPM horsepower, and it revs about 2 grand lower than a 302 does.

    Yeah those mustangs of those years including the Cobra's, are all slow. But several of my neighbors have very mean ones, low 11 sec cars at the track, but down the road they all got destroyed by turbo 4 bangers from around here.

    my buddys got a 5.0 makin around 375 on motor. it's pretty stout.... but theres a guy on the other side of town with a 91 that has a built 598 c.i. motor in it with the 5.0 emblems still on it and i think it makes bout 9?? on motor and 13?? on spray. i think i heard he was on passtime. like a week or 2 ago.

    Yea they were that quick at all friend walked one at the track with his ls hatch.But you should have went to second if you were going that slow prolly would have been closer.

    But yea I do own one... But its the 4.6... I haven't raced my wifes 96 GT yet but it feels a lot faster then the accord and its just an auto, I just thought the foxbodys were faster then the 94-98's......

    5.0 * 61.02 = 305 they are both 305 ci.... the crank makes the diff...........

    4.6's suck. I have a 2000 GT.... and you gotta do all kind of stuff to make power out of them. FAIL

    302s are quick,u gotta look at them from the time period not comparing it to today standards.

    a 14 sec car was quick in late 80s,like my camaro its slow now but was decent when it was new
