Computer Help Needed!

Computer: Compaq hp desktop.
Anti-virus program: AVG free 9.0

Well, my old Norton expired not long ago and a couple virus' got in the computer. Downloaded AVG free and problems seemed to stop. A few weeks go by problem free and then they start arising again. First, its starts with loading of videos and songs. Wouls not load fast at all. It use to be I could watch videos on youtube and never once would it stop to load. Now, it takes a 3:00 minutes video 10 minutes to load. Then it started shutting out all programs when I got on certain sites. I'm not talking about porn or anything like that, this was sites like Playlist.com, Facebook.com, CGTC.com (<-- Which I HAVE GOT TO HAVE), and etc. Nothing else has been happening except is so slow. Everyone said AVG was very good and so far its been shit to me. I'm by far no computer genius. So, I have no clue where to look and what to do. Just thought maybe some of you have had the same problems and know something to do. Oh and my firewall protection is on.

look up a program that is called stinger and run it from either a cd you burned of it or off of a usb stick.it's a freeware and has been used by several of my coworkers on their own personal machine and they say it is very good.don't count avg out just yet either.avg is an amazing security program and i use it on ALL of my machines,both work and personal.you also need to look at running superanti-spyware and malware anti-malwarebytes from a usb stick as well.gl with it all and let me know if you have any other concerns or questions.

There is a difference between viruses and spyware. AVG free only catches viruses while spyware runs free on your computer.

If your still having problems, you can copy the logs from those programs and you can post on their forums and they will solve it for you.

The best 2 spyware programs i have found that you can use (and are free) are malwarebytes and Super anti Spyware. If your having lots of problems, run both, as usually one will find what the other did not find. You can get both programs here:

In the future if you want to pay for a real nice antivirus anti spyware tool. Check for Kaspersky. Its awesome. Right now Frys is running a special for the Full Kaspersky internet security 2010 60 bucks with a 60 dollar mail in rebate. So practically free. Must buy in the next few days or so though for rebate. I have been running it for a few years now, and never a single problem:

avg is good if you have the paid version which i have. the free version only works for so long and doesnt help much compared to the paid version. i built my desktop last year around this time and been using avg ever since. never had any problems. upgraded from xp to vista then vista to windows 7 where im currently at. look into getting bittorrent or something and getting the avg paid version. its so much better. you can always restore your computer back to an earlier time and wont lose any files or anything. also avg paid version has its own firewall on it and its better then the windows firewall. look into it.

i been on a trial version of avast and it seems pretty good to me. picked up alot of shit the avg free didnt. i also use trojan remover. have you tried to return the computer to a early time yet? that should get it back to how it was if you maybe did something on accident.

I second avast, anybody I know who uses a windows machine has taken my advice and used avast. The home edition is free, and just requires you to register for a free key, which you will receive by email. My girlfriends parents have been virus free for 2 years now with avast, I highly recommend it over any other virus protection.

I remove infections from computers for a living. Avast for the win. Does just as good a job as other good antivirus programs and much better than Norton and McAfee. It also has a boot scan to get rid of those pesky replicators. I personaly don't like AVG because it finds too many false positives and can block and or interfere with legitimate programs. Best free stuff. Avast for antivirus and malwarebytes for antispyware. Spyware Doctor is also very very good but you will have to pay for it. But only 30 buck for three licenses. Try Avast and malwarbytes first. Hope this helps.

here is what I do 99% of the time.

reboot computer and hit F9 - then boot in safe mode (if you can't download first, go in safe mode with networking and install malwarebytes there)
start -> run -> type in msconfig
go to startup tab, disable all.
reboot computer and let it go in to windows like normal. (Windows will start the necessary services, so disabling all doesn't affect anything)
then run full scan on malwarebytes
computer should be in a normal state to give you time to find some good virus protection software.

I do this routine on computers I'm working on. I like to install ESET NOD32 afterwards as my anti virus. Also, instead of doing msconfig you can just regedit and see whats really starting up. Msconfig doesn't show every single thing that runs when you load windows

Like wat others have said,

Used Avast & Malwarebytes. I also used Spybot Search & Detroy then Ccleaner to clean registry & temp files. All free software...Last option is a full restore. GL!
