    Default SD card class? What does it mean

    Well after looking into a new ipod/zune i decided i would just upgrade the micro sd card in my BB. Im looking for an 8gb card and i keep seeing different class numbers on them. what does the number mean? which one should i get?

    you referring to the circled number at the top right hand corner of the card itself? i just now noticed it after reading this, lol. idk what it means but mine is a 2 and works in my BB Bold. just go to your cell service provider store and buy one from there. i'm sure they wouldn't sell you a micro sd card that wouldn't work in their phones.

    i got someone at work who used to work for sandisk, i'll try to ask him and see. but if anybody knows, i'd like to know too

    it has to do w/ speeds and min speed rates:

    * Class 2: 2 MB/s - 13x
    * Class 4: 4 MB/s - 26x
    * Class 6: 6 MB/s - 40x

    idk if this helps but i work @ at&t we sell the bb 8310 & 8320 curve. and all we have are micro sd hc cards to sell to customers. idk if it's just ours that can use the hc but we haven't had any problems with the cards in our curves.

    • Class 4: 4 MB/s - 26x

    SDHC cards will often also advertise a maximum speed (such as 133x or 150x) in addition to this minimum Speed Class Rating. See section Speeds above for a further explanation. One critical difference between the Speed Class and the maximum speed ratings is the ability of the host device to query the SD card for the speed class and determine the best location to store data that meets the performance required. "Maximum speed" ratings are quoted by the manufacturers but unverified by any independent evaluation process.

    Its just talking about the absolute minimum speed. They usually run a good bit faster, but they all have different read/write speeds so they don't advertise the max read/write speeds.
