Question bout RAM
So i bought 2 - 1gb ram chip. So 2gb in total.
Before that i had 2 - 2XX ram chips. and it was 5XX total ram.
Well i put 2 of the 1gb ram in and on the system information, it only shows that i have 1gb of ram. Why is this happening? If i take one of the ram chip out, it still shows i have 1gb of ram.
How old is your system? Who is it from? Motherboard info?
Yeah, if your computer is older it may not allow above 1GB. The previous sticks may have been MB.

But yeah the computer is pretty old. 7 years old and its by gateway. i guess i'll return 1 of the 1gb then or sell it.

Great place to check out what kind/how much/how much per slot/how many slots of RAM your computer has.

I watched alot of movies online. Few months ago, one of my memory broke because of that. What should I do to prevent that in the future?

I have 4 slots for memory card. But can only take 1gb. But yeah the computer works great with this 1gb of ram.

Computer usage can't damage ram as long as its running at the correct speed and is the correct type. RAM does sometimes fail after usage but its usually a defective piece.
A virus can however damage data on your hard drive..
try moving the memory to different slots... if you have four slots then they should be labeled 1,2,3,4,etc...
once your machine starts up hit del, f1, f2 or whatever will get you into bios and see if it registers 2gb of memory (don't play in bios) just look for what you need and get out.

it also depends on the OS and if it supports that amount of ram as alot of newer boards can have 8 and 16gb of ram

he should be fine up to 4gb; anything over that isn't needed anyway for typical user
