    Default eclipse problem

    hi guys

    i have a 93 eclipse 1.8l SOHC and i am having a problem with the alternator belt. it keeps on squeaking when i do a cold start. Today i changed the belt with a gatorback poly V belt. STILL it squeeks on a cold start. . . any suggestions??

    no idea but since its an eclipse, you better start getting use to problems

    nah, LIRL, bottom end went out on one and the other blew up

    valves or bottom end?? my buddys 91 we got (LIRL for $50, dont ask) had valve tick and still lasted like 40k

    i have no idea where it is ticking from . . i just got a new clutch installed and the mechanic says it is the lifters

    yeah, thats top end. does it go away as the car warms up??

    it did before the clutch install but now it doesnt

    that has an automatic tensioner, right? if a new belt still does it, then id check the tension of the belt or the tensioner could have gone bad

    nope it is manual but i fixed it today (i hope) i used my 1/2in socket driver and put it between the engine and the alt. and used it to push the alternator far doewn so that the belt would be really tight (did it by hand previously) and tightened it while holdng it and it hasnt squeeked all day even with my system POUNDING
