Default Possibly a new subi owner

If everything goes smoothly i will be the owner of a 99 subaru impreza coupe black w/ gold wheels.

My question is the car needs a new head gasket but, i want to swap a bigger motor in either a 2.5 turbo or a 3.0 and turbo it.

What would be more reasonable for a dd. 3.0 then peice together a turbo kit or just drop in a 2.5 turbo. I don't know much about subaru's but, i am just trying find out what i can do with this car.

Last question where can i find a motor usdm preferrably.

i would go with the 2.5 turbo (thats what i did) you will be more than happy with it and it will be alot of fun to drive... Good luck

Dont even waste your time with a 3.0. There's a local guy who's car has been under the knife for over a year and a half doing that swap.

The 2.5 would be much better for a DD but I really want the high-revving JDM STI motor.

Would you trade your wheels for WRX wheels?

Most of the JDM sti motors are the same. 2.0l and high revving. USDM sti motors are 2.5l and rev to 7k. I personally like the bigger displacement for the higher torque. You could always build your heads to rev high later on down the road. OR with the JDM sti motors you could change out to a usdm sti shortblock to rev high on a 2.5l.

Or if you had the time you could swap out the shortblock on your RS and do a custom turbo kit. Waaaaaaay cheaper than a swap. You can just buy stock wrx/sti pieces that'll bolt right up to turbo your car. And a 2.5l sti block to make sure nothing breaks. Voila! One word of advice.....no matter what you do.....change out your tranny first....RS trannies do not hold up to too much torque especially if you race

If i did a swap i was going to swap out motor, tranny, and rear end from a sti! I should know n a few days if i will get the car or not.

I'd say just drop the 2.5L sti engine in it. Its gonna be way too much trouble to do anything else and I think you'll be very happy with the STi engine. Its already together and working. You also can get the whole drivetrain/tranny setup from an sti for 2-3k. You'll want that trany like everyone else is saying since it's practically bullet proof for dragging/racing. Just make sure to use good fluid .
