Ive been hit with a roadside bomb

Yes you read correctly, I have been hot with a roadside bomb, luckily I was in an armored vehicle. Ill never forget it. It felt like I got punched in the back of the head by the worlds strongest man. My entire truck filled with black smoke before I ever even heard the explosion. The truck I ride around here in iraq has 8 wheels, 4 on each side obviously, it hit between the third and fourth wheel on the left side. Here in Iraq roadside bombs are the most common attack we face and we encounter a minimum of five or six per day between us and Iraqs police department almost always resulting in deaths when they hit the mildly armored chevy tahoes and trailblazers the Iraqi police ride around in.

there were 9 of us in the truck that got hit and the only injurys were some ringing ears and nasty headaches. I too lost a great friend to an IED (improvised explosive device) back on feb 26 when one went off directly under his drivers seat and blew up into his seat.

I love my armored truck but we still have to get out and walk the streets on a daily basis to interact with the people and offer them money to tell us where the bad guys live. when we do find the bombs we have a special team that goes out to the site and disarms them, we also have a plane that flies over and sends out a signal that will set off any remote detinated ones, obviously that goes on when we are not in the area.

Ive only been hit by one in the ten months ive been out here, other trucks have been hit several times so Im pretty lucky. It blew out 6 of 8 tires and those things weigh 350 pounds a peice and myself and two other people had to change them. that was the worst part. it took us like 4 hours to do it.
