group c = argentina (#3 netherlands vs. #4 argentina best of round 1)
group d = mexico (mex vs. portugal should be good but mex ftw)

group g = france (cake walk)

here are my predictions for the 1st stage of the world cup.. anyone else want to make some predictions (post up) ... anyone up for a small wager on the games; like 5$... pick your winners for 1st stage, for everyone you get right you get 1 point. the guy w/ the most points at the end of stage 1 wins the pot. anyone?

I'm super down for going to eat and watch some soccer. I would love to see the Netherland vs. Argentina and hope the Netherlands kicks argentina's ass

I think the US will get pretty far, but not far enough to win a cup. Not yet at least

FUCK GRAN TURISMO EAST!! NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR THERE, ESPECIALLY NOT FOR AN ALIGNMENT!! TERRIBLE BUSINESS!!

I say brazil...I also say we get a group of people to go to the World Cup after this one...cuz EUROPE SOCCER is nothing like it is here.

I was there last time they had a world cup (not at the world cup but a couple games before) and I was in Croatia...bout an hour from the town square (where all locals watch the games on a huuuge TV) and Croatia won...well you can hear gunshots from end of game to mid the next day. Its crazy how people love that sport so much. Thats why they have so many riots because someones team loses and they get pissed lol.

i want to see final Argentina vs. Brazil... i would like to see USA vs. any european team in 3rd, but i would say (Eng, Ita, Fra, Ned, Ger, or USA will be in the 3rd spot)

i don't think Ivory Coast will get out of group C, i think they will surprise people but they have to beat Arg and Ned first.

Brazil i just don't see them taking it even though they are fav... i think europeans will take it home.

argentina didnt even make it to the rounds of 16 in 2002, nor did France. i still say germany is the strongest opponent for brazil. they have home field advantage too.

yes but i belive argentina beat brazil to qualify for the wc... and argentina has better club teams anyway, so i think its going to be good race to the cup. only thing though is Brazil has a cakewalk w/ the first round... i wouldn't be surprised to see them win each match taking 0 pts scored . argentina still has netherlands and ivory coast to play (if they beat both no prob i would say brazil may be in some trouble)

BUEHLERTAL, Germany (AP) -- Wayne Rooney practiced with England on Thursday, hours after being cleared by doctors to play in the World Cup following his recovery from a broken right foot.

"The good news from yesterday evening and today is Rooney has no more injury, he is injury-free," coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said after practice, reading from a prepared statement. "Now it's up to us to get him match fit."

The morning after returning to Germany on a late-night flight from England, Rooney casually kicked a ball with David Beckham, Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville before taking part in light running, stretching and ball drills. Shortly before the 15-minute portion of the practice session that was open to the media finished, Rooney joined a drill where players stood in a circle, trying to avoid passing the ball to a player in the middle.

Rooney had been kept out of such drills during England training sessions earlier this week.

Even though the 20-year-old Rooney is back on the England squad, he is unlikely to play until after the group games.
