    Default 93 Altima GXE w/carputer

A few months ago I was looking for an affordable Pioneer GPS system to add onto my Pioneer Premier HU. Well my idea of affordable and markets idea was two different things. Thats when I came across a few sites that were about carputers and decided this was the best way for me.

Currently all the hardware is in minus the sub-amp and the sub. Im working on the install as of right now also. These pictures are a few weeks old and it is a work in progress. Comments welcome.

This is the before picture. I had a Pioneer Premier that I recently sold.

This is the current mess the trunk is in. This is a few weeks old and is a little better looking as of right now. Recently installed my new Pioneer 4ch amp also.

Here is the usb linksys wireless adaptor. This is also is very temporary.

    Testing the GPS receiver.

    The 7" touchscreen almost installed.

Random shot of my gauges. Nothing special here.

This is Centrafuse. It is the "frontend" of the whole setup. Controls almost everything from your cell phone, music, dvds, videos, gps, weather reports, traffic reports, and web browsing.

Here is my Pioneer 7/8" tweeter...

My oem altima spoiler waiting to painted and put on.

XM radio which will connect directly to the carputer.

And here is a few exterior shots of my Altima. Nothing special right now but after the carputer is installed I will be working on the performance end more then the exterior.

Alot of the rigged install in these pics are temporary and alot of stuff has allready been fixed. Like I said the pics are a few weeks old and alot of work has gone into it and still will. The blue dash will be getting some black treatment also and I have a Pioneer amp that is not pictured.

A few more pics are on my various websites at various stages of the car.

Also I would love to get with some Nissan guys or tuners in general in the northern metro area to learn, get ideas, meet, or just hangout.

Got a pretty decent deal on them or so I thought. Brought them from my mechanic that does all my work at Voodoo Performance/Radiator Works in Marietta and one of the rims turned out to be warped. They have it right now trying to straighten it out. Why do you think there's only pics of one side. They are 17" Niches with some crappy Wynstar 195/40/17's.

I appreciate the feedback. After I finish up a few details and hopefully get promoted I'm looking at either a turbo setup or a NA setup from these guys...

    Racetep

    Turbonetics Kit = $3599
    Racetep = $3900

    Complete Engine build-up includes….

    · .040 overbore 10.5:1 JE Pistons

    · Total-Seal Ring pack

    · Race prepped stock rods with ARP bolts

    · Detailed and Heat Treated crankshaft

    · Lightened stock Flywheel

    · Balanced and Blueprinted rotating assembly

    · Race Ported, Flowed, CC’d Cylinder Head

    · 3 Angle racing valve job with hand lap and back-cut

    · Secondary Butterfly system removed.

    · Intake manifold match ported.

    · Throttle body opening enlarged for 65mm T/Body.

    · Camshafts reground and indexed.

    · Valves shimmed and adjusted.

    · Heavy Duty Head Bolts.

    · Felpro Gaskets

    $3900.00 complete

    Optional Upgrades:

Ceramic coat pistons for Nitrous use $49.00 ea

High Heat coat valves for Nitrous use $9.00 ea

Enlarge stock throttle body to 65mm $250.00

I dont have much experience in a project of this scale. Does this list sound about right for that price? I was thinking it was best to do this because then I could add a turbo later and wouldnt have to build the engine up all at once if I decided to go turbo. Recommendations?

wheels compliment the car well, Nice plans for Boost...the set-up sounds about right for our NA cars (i guess Race Prepped rods means shot-peened)

I will be heading in the same direction, decided to hold on to my 96 instead of getting a 350 Z with a car payment.

Thanks Kevykev, I remember you from the old Altimas.net forums. Or better yet your more interesting posts. :p I cant remeber which Alti was yours though.

I been thinking about the 350Z also but cant justify getting one right now since I just brought a vehicle for the wife and I got so much time and money invested into this car.

Your post were all entertaining reading, especially the off topic stuff. I remember your car now. Definetly one of my earlier favorites from altimas.net along with those like Phigety, Ross, Russ, and the like. Were going to have to talk Alti business one day. Ive seen a few first gens in the Atlanta area but very very few nice ones. Paced with a silver one with the R33 kit one day on 75 north. I would like to get some ideas for the Altima from someone locally that has one.

TEP's stuff is way overpriced... take a little time to research exactly what you want performance wise and you will end up spending a good bit less than that.

Thanks man, that site was fun while it lasted. It just got overwhelmingly lame after a while. Althought the member base increased, the quality went downhill fast. I post every now and then to get car info or just to post for the hell of it.

Ultimatuc has a vid hosted right now of 300whp with his current turbo setup running 13's you should check that one out.

i have most of the components i need to do a carputer as well... they're soooooo much cheaper and more practical than any specialized item on the market.

Thanx for the info. Any suggestions on where to start? Web sites, local shops, or people? Recommendations on what to go with?

I saw that. Simply amazing and I beleive its still 100% street legal. Not really trying to get that high in numbers but something extra fun to drive. As of right now I dont have any plans to do shows or competitive racing so that would be overkill. Still props to Ultimatic for the achievement. kettnerc is also finishing up his amazing turbo project after a lot of time, money and work.

I know what you mean about altimas.net. Seems over the past year the quality of the members has gone way down hill. The post used to be from members who were trying new things, creating new ideas, and were innovative in the first gens. Now it seems the whole site has moved towards the 3rd gens now.

I love my carputer. Alot different than using a headunit and not as simple but way better. The hardest part was getting the software and the OS to act right. ;-\ Good luck on your carpc project. I'm always available if you have any questions cuz i know i had plenty for others. Haha.
