Default XXL's 21 Reasons Why The South Is, Ruining Hip-Hop

    1. Three 6 Mafia: Two words: La Chat.

    2. Cee-Lo Green: He turned his back on one of the greatest Southern rap groups of all time. I’m sure there are three sides to every story, but I find this unforgivable. (Unless, of course, one of them impregnated your babymomma. Then you crank up some 808-driven tune about keeping your foot on that batch’s neck and call it a day.)

    3. No one copped Deliverance: Thus explaining why The Charm is one big step backwards for Southernkind. Especially that “Ms. New Booty.”

    4. D4L: You cannot defend the indefensible.

    5. Dem Franchize Boys: Except for Parlae. Word on the skreet is his G is certified. And I can always get with a brother trying to change his life.

    6. Jazze Pha: This is another Jazze Phizzle producshizzle. Please stone me. Quickly.

    7. The Circus: Apparently, some Negro gypsies passed through ATL and had the nerve to leave the Ying Yang Twins behind. (The show hasn’t been the same since losing Lerch-man and Gizmo-boy.)

    8. Baby “Birdman” Williams AKA The #1 Stunna: Time was, you could do nothing but admire the brother’s hustle. But since then, he’s ruined one of the greatest rap conglomerates ever, sold butt-ugly sneakers and channeled the lesser parts of both Suge Knight and Puffy Diddy into one useless persona.

    9. 8 Ball & MJG: For not knowing better than to sign with the Puff Monster. (How much Crown Royal where you guys drinking?)

    10. Paul Wall & Johnny the Jeweler: Just. Stop.

    11. Insecurrre Southern Hip-Hop fans: It’s hard to appreciate the good music that comes from the Dirty Dirty with you whiners broadcasting your martyr syndrome/victimization complex all over the place. (As an esteemed journalistic legend and noted doctor once said, “Quit yer bitchin’.”) Don’t know who’s hating on you, but it’s no one over here.

    12. Pen & Pixel Graphics: Ubkkene aknenke knkla plnlnll.

    13. Lil Flip: A kcuffin’ Leprechaun? Geezus H.

    14. Because it’s not New York: You idiots are going to read this, anyway. Just figured I’d make it easier for you oxygen deprived jokes of nature.

    15. Southern-based drug cartels run RabbitShare: And they tried to tell us that “snap music” was something more than it was. That crap was no G-Funk.

    16. Chamillionaire: Three mixtapes and you couldn’t finish Mike Jones? What are you—enrolled in the Jayceon T. Taylor Shool for Useless Run-On Rap Beef?

    17. Mr. Collipark: Intimate club music, my eye. The cow has been milked. You caught two great songs out of it. Move on, Blackman. Move on.

    18. Universal Records: After they got lucky with Cash Money, they were throwing money at anything with gold teeth and a drop top. Because of this, there was a lot of really bamma shiite released around the turn of the century. I’d give you names, but I sold all that crap on Houston Street with the quickness.

    19. Pastor Troy: Homey switched up to go mainstream. I blame Universal.

    20. Chingo Bling: Maybe I’m not smart enough to catch the detournement (word to Clyde Smith), but from here, it looks like you’re clowning on Mexicans. We don’t condone that type of thing over here.

    21. OZONE Magazine: Because each issue has more than enough ammunition to fill this list 36 times over.

Until the west coast or up north rappers do sometihng....... and actually sell records. there isnt really anythign that can be said. Peopel hate on southern rap, but it sells, and people like it. Whoever makes money people hate, Game sells records.. nobody like him. 50 sells records than noone likes him. Its cool to hate..

dont say anythign about underground and local jokers, beause all rappers want to sell records, and you can only go so far being underground.

See the West isn't doing shit right now. Just here and there shit. Everyone said Gayme was gonna break the West back in, but I always said the opposite. I was right on that count. People basically stick to their specific region. North hates the West. South doesn't really hate the West so much. West hates the North and the South. South and North seem to get along ok. Later, QD.

I'm going to say the south is a target becasue of the steaming piles of CRAP that is being shoveled into our ears and, its passing as "music". D4L & Dem Franchise Boys are more than enough proof that it doesn't take talent or creativity to be a "successful" artist in the music industry

admittedly, the south has put out some crap-- but you cant say its "ruining hip hop"... without the south (specifically ATL), you wouldn't have MF Doom, Goodie MOB, of course OUTKAST, even ludacris.. many more to list.

every region has their fuck ups.

What clubs do you go to? The spots that I hit gets the floor packed with Biggie, Pac, classic dancehall, and just about anything with Busta on it. NOBODY gets a party started like Busta!!!

I have yet to go to a club where the dance floor gets packed to the sounds of a hand held Casio keyboard and asinine pre-school lyrics about candy. I make it a habit to not frequent clubs where the standard male attire is a long white dress. I guess these dresses would be a t-shirt on a 7ft. tall man but, being that the guys wearing them are usually shorter than T.I., they fit the way a dress would fit on a woman. For some reason, the shorter the guy, the longer the dress (white tee), and the more ignorant the frame of mind. These are the same guys that bounce around on the dance floor with all of their Smurf-like friends trying to grind on any woman in their vicinity then, try to fight the women when they get pushed away. This is "dancing again"?

To each his/her own I guess. For me, I like to hit clubs where good music is celebrated, the vibe of the crowd is chill, and if crap like DFL and/or Franchise Boyz is played, the DJ immediately replaced with someone who has actual taste in music!

That's the West problem then. I guess same reason no one on the East Coast or in the South are purchasing anything made by artist from the West Side except Dr. Dre, Tupac, and (damn I can't remember his name) and that's only a little.
But whatever. I am not into the whole East Coast West Coast fury bullshit.

I don't know about that, now. It isn't a big chunk, but I do know that the South buys up a bit of the West Coast stuff. The North doesn't, though. I don't know who you're talking about either. Gayme?

the west coast, is so distant form everyone else..noone ever knows whats goin on out there. Texas and cali show love for each other somewhat. The west and the south are somewaht similar to me, they got there own slang, there own way of dance there own everything, and its either u hate or love it. the whole southern thing was just a southern thing last year, but its spread all around. i dont think its a flaw i just tihnk the music out of the south is what people like simple as that, even if it is a cheesy song people like it and people dance to it...and when a d4l-franchise boyz-jeezy song coems on in the club it goes crazy..

I mean I agree that the lyrics are not worth shit (Lil John for example), but for me it's the beat. I am big into what the song sounds like. If I hear a song, the only thing that will make me stop and listen is the beat of the song, the words don't mean much to me unless it is an artist worth listening to. I mean Young Jeezy is an awesome artist to me because he can talk about some shit he has experienced and some shit I have experienced. To me he is a real artist, but like I said it's my opinion. I am not an expert

Yeah T.I is the shit. If you like T.I you might like Pastor Troy. I like Pastor because he is real. He gets on some other shit, shit that makes you think for example the song vise versa. But different strokes for different folks nah mean

The bottom line for me is, the clubs I hit NEVER stopped dancing, except when some crap like "Laffy Taffy" is played. I guess there could be a shortage of "hoes" at these spots because, most of the "hoes" I've encountered were actually WOMEN rather than "hoes". As for selling records, thread after thread has pointed out how people will buy crap, no matter how much it STINKS!

    Mainstream rap = shit.

Southern rap is all about going mainstream and being played in the club. There isn't any substance to it except the stuff being done by Outkast and Cee-lo.... THAT's why people hate on southern rap.

How long do you really think you can rap about dances and how much money you have?

No denying that. Every area has it's share of bad rappers. It's just that most of the rap noise right now is coming from the South. The South is making rap look bad, not ruining it. Not all Southern rappers are. You can't honestly say that the Ying Yang Twins, Lil Jon, Trillville, and them have any talent. Queezy? No. Dem Franchise Boys? A hair better than Queezy. T.I. is the only one worth anything right now. Later, QD.

there is no real way to judge "talent" besides record sales, and we all know record sales sometimes doesnt mean your talented. that just means your popular. Id say that all those rappers you named up there have some form of talent because they get the crowd moving. The whole "crunk" era of rap has got the club and crowds moving like no other era of hip hop thats why its so popular right now, and cant be duplicated.

shit last time i was in Ny, niggas were bumping the south shit, and even admitted the south was running shit. For every bad southern rapper out there i can name a good one.

every coast had there time to shine, East coast and west coast have both had their share of great/bad rappers, Its the souths time to shine and some people dont respect that.

    Truth.

    Extended truth.

You said the real reason. Popular. Not talent. It doesn't take talent to say "Who you wit" or "Shake it like a salt shaker" throughout a whole song.

It's actually not so popular anymore. You may have noticed that "crunk" has/is slowly moved out; to be replaced by a little more laid back rhyming. Young Queezy, T.I., Franchise and such.

We'll see who has the talent to stay in the game long enough for someone to remember them in 6 months. Who's gonna be changing the game for the next gen? That'll determine who did something for hip hop or not.

i like southern rap...not the new stuff. Maybe one in a few songs let alone cds that I like. Classic rap I still like (west and south). I did have all of Tu-PAcs CDs and Easy Es, but unfortunately the got stollen. Old Three Six is still good to me, Drama was good for a little, Pastor Troy, some Luda, some TI, and others, but most of this new shit (NO MATTER WHERE IT IS COMMING FROM) SOUNDS THE DAMN SAME TO ME.
