    Default ATTN: All IA moms...

ok I know there are a good bit of moms on here so I have this question. Have any of you ever had post-partum depression, and how were you able to get rid of it?

My fiancee has been showing the signs of it. Pretty much all of these: "Having feelings of loss — loss of identity of who you are, or were, before having the baby, loss of control, loss of your pre-pregnancy figure, and feeling less attractive. Having less free time and less control over time. Having to stay home indoors for longer periods of time and having less time to spend with the your partner and loved ones."

I know it can get worse if it doesnt go away, so I was just wondering some good tips to help her get through this so it doesnt get any worse.

she is going to need to seek medical attention, usually a primary care dr or ob-gyn...they will then need to prescribe some type of medication for her.. she may want to go asap, sometimes it can get bad pretty fast

I was just kidding. My gf was talking to me about this two days before, and said when you hear about mothers killing their babies, that it is related to this post-partum depression. Is that true?

When you hear of mothers killing the babies its not post-partum depression anymore. This is what they call post-partum psychosis and psychosis comes almost imedietly(sp) after the birth of the child rather than 3-4 weeks after like the depression. Psychosis is the worst to have though...sshit even the depression cuz it can evolve into psychosis.

My ex went through it for two years and it was straight hell, it really is a serious form of depression. She wasn't inspired to do anything.. constantly in a bad mood. Sex life changed drastically.. before our son we couldn't keep our hands off each other, afterwards it was maybe once a month if that.

Definitely seek professional help but also encourage her to get out the house and away from the baby, things like just putting the baby in the car with you and going for a ride or running errands while she does her own thing can help.

Take her out without the baby, kind of like a date when you first met her. Just let her know that you still find her just as attractive and its okay to laugh and be playful.

I think when she actually started getting out on a regular basis the depression went away to some extent, from the outside looking in it seemed like she felt the world was passing her by and when she finally started working and hanging out a little bit she got better. Hope this helps, good luck with it.
