I don't like lowballing people. But when they don't give a price and say to make and an offer and we will go from there. I will almost always start low. You have to give people and idea of what you are looking to get for something.
He probably just gave you the heat gun because he didnt want it and wasnt planning to give you the $20 he owed you. Thats how I see it.

Here's why.
I think you guys need to wait a bit before jumping to huge conclusions about stuff. IF you still had the heat gun, its not like you lost out some how. Maybe he was short on cash, but you still agreed to let the sale go down like it did. Go figure there's some complications, but this guy trusted you enough to keep all that money of his without the product.
Don't make threads like this when they're so much in your favor and you haven't given ample time for the problem to solve itself.
This isn't an area to bitch. People take this stuff seriously. So think about what you're doing/saying people.
