dumbest thread ever.
IMO GSR head, more compression

^^^ how much for a GSR head + everthing else needed?
GSR heads run $600, then your looking at GE dowel pins, head gasket, labor everything around $1500 parts an labor
Remember you need little bits of machine work on the block and head

I was under the impression that the B16 head flowed the best...
the B16 head is an unported and unpolished ITR head. The GSR will yeild more compression than the B16. Mike help me out if I am wrong.
So....if i port and polish.....any good places to have the port and polish done?
i know you love my swagger

GSR head is a better STREET head with more midrange TQ cause of the manifold. Now if your talking about runnink a skunk2 manifold to eliminate the butterflies, i still like the GSR head cause you get the added compression from the quench pads in the head.
ANother good thing about the GSR head is that the quench pads also move the flame into the center of the combustion chamber for a more even burn.
This is not to say that the B16 head sucks, cause im running one on my new motor cause i need to keep my compression down (12:1 already), good things about the B16 head is that you can run a AEBS intake manifold (not available for the GSR yet) which is the best manifold on the market.

"1992 EG 2.0 LS/VTEC *ROCKET* POWERED"
2.0... 2.0=B20? is that the infamous Frankenstien swap?
i have the b16 ported and polish with a full gsr vavletrain and personally like it better.
Gsr head stock, modified, the B16 any day, why do you think they choose the B16 head for the type r over the moded gsr head, cause moded,it had better flow charactics
my guess since its a LS Vtec, then its the LS 1.8L with a stroker kit....Originally Posted by estis fatuus
i have a friend whos brother owns Import XP (experts) and both of them have used B16 heads. it works, you get the B16A1 or B16A2 head, tranny, and ECU and have your LS Vtec that redlines at 8200 RPMs, and has a short gear tranny (like the GSR).
I have a LS block that is RS MACHINES Sleeved. IE its a 84.5mm Bore with a n89mm crank(LS). its slightly larger than a 2.0.
To answer everyones questions, the debate has been raging for years abot which one is better.
To SK8PHAZE, have you ever seen an ITR head, the P&P is MINOR AT BEST. why did they choose a B16 casting for the ITR< mainly because the ITR has the highest compression out of all B series, and that a gsr head would have raised it another .3. THe differences between a B16 3rd gen head and a ITR head (port wise) is about 20 min of mild portmatching. And thats TOTALLY WRONG INFO about flow characteristics. SHOW ME PROOF, show me Flow benches of CFMs per head. what you dont realize is a ported head (a quality job) will make the heads damn near identical. we are talking about stock vs stock.
GSR head is a BETTER street head, what you guys dont realize is that secondaries and the GSR manifold =MORE TQ on the street and in the midrange. Which is where your car will be fast. GSR head is a better street head IMO. B16 heads are shitty, but id personally run a GSR head if i could. the quench pads of the GSR head also push the flamefront in the combustion chamber together for a better burn than an open B16 head

I ordered a GSR head for my ls/vtec conversion, but they (jdmshit.com) accidentally sent me a B16. I was in a hurry as my deadline was coming up fairly quickly (roadtrip), and i didn't consider it any big deal. The only thing i was upset about is that i had to re-map my ecu to account for the secondaries not being there anymore and do a little street tuning. The correct way to do the swap is with a GSR head, read the hundreds of thousands of threads on "how to do it correctly" on honda-tech and c-speedracing.

Mike please sticky a FAQ on the Ls/Vtec. I know that there are plenty of write ups if you don't feel like doing it yourself. Or maybe if you want to add some of your own info to an existing write up. There are so many questions that I think it will be a very helpful add on to the tech threads. >.02
