    Default 94 Escort LX-E

    Repost from Clubprotege.

I decided not to go turbo a while back since my car has 250k plus miles on it. I contemplated on wether it was worth doing anything with it other than driving the wheels off. Then an old friend got in touch saying he had a KLZE he wanted to sell. Gave 900 for it and a new ACT street clutch. So started my hunt for mx3 stuff. Found a MX3GS on craigslist for 250 bucks. Now I'll be doing the swap. All I have left to do now is get some headers, timing bits, chip, and exhaust.

I'll use this first post for a price list and following posts with pics and descriptions.

Headers came in and cleaned out the MX3. Filled up a garbage can of crap, boy was it nasty. Looks like some one hauled a bale of hay in the hatch.

Waiting on some special order gaskets from the Ford dealer, so I decided to get some work done. Got married last weekend too, so my little bro was up from Florida to lend a hand.

    Getting started:

    K8 is out:

Kinda dark but glass, doors, and interior are done:

Suspension is much easier to remove upside down:

    Stay tuned for more.

Everything stripped off and my mess cleaned up. Now time to start tearing down the escort.

    Progress...sort of.

Machine shop still has the motor. Taking their time but they're are doing it cheap since it's being fit in between big money jobs. Next I will be pulling the MX-3 GS suspension out of storage for clean, paint, refurbish.

Picked up a pretty good score at the junkyard. Found a square port curve neck millenia manifold. It was easy pickings since someone else had already taken it off to get at the cams but would rather have the proper ZE curve neck. This one will do until I can find one. Grabbed the "Mazda 24 valve" valve cover from the same car. Got some tracer headlights from an LTS that was there, nabbed it's rear wing to sell since I already have one. Got some nice GT sideskirts and front mudflaps to match the ones on my familia rear bumper. Last but not least picked up some 92 626 front hubs that were laying on the ground, they were removed by somebody getting the engine and trans. Will have some big news on these soon as I did some test fitting with other parts I already had in my shop, got to figure out a few details first. Will add pics when I get a chance. Got a few other things for my diesel powered Mitsubishi Montero and picked up a five lug rear axle and LSD for my 72 Celica.

    Pics:

    sideskirts

VC, my original ZE cover simply says mazda and nothing else.

A family of wrens have moved into my empty engine bay, soon as the babies fly off, I'll get back to it. In the meantime, I have purchased a rear five lug swap.

Quick update. I have been super busy with work. Over 1200 hrs of overtime worked this year. Managed to get by the machine shop Friday. My engine is still not completely together. The owner, who does all the performance builds himself, has had cancer. After a couple of surgeries and a round of chemo, he's back to work as of last week. He said he will get it finished in the next couple of weeks. Just so happens I start a three month outage in two weeks, so I'll have a shiny new engine sitting around til next year.

    Moar...parts that is.

Five lug disc brake rear thanks to Ian.

All I could find in my area was drum rears. Was going to turn the drums down on a lathe to use a slip on rotor then fab brackets and calipers for the rear. This saves alot of time and money that can be spent elsewhere.

Wheels, never mind the Honda centers.

Tires are crap but will do for moving it around the yard. Scored these guys for 275. Seller said they were Rota knock off's which would make them knock-offs of knock-offs, dawg. Got em home and ROTA is cast into the back of the wheel in between lug holes. Some say Rota wheels are dangerous, but this will never be a track car so they should be fine.

    Test fit

    All for now.

    More parts.
Spherical endlinks from a long ago group buy on MX-3.com forums. A little spendy but quality. I had to cut the originals off.

Now I'm on the hunt for the MX-3 bushing kit that was a one time group buy. Might be wishful thinking.
No forseeable assembly until outage is over in January.

Went by the machine shop today. ZE is all done. Had them assemble the short block. I'll take care of the rest. Yes the engine is in my dining area where it will be assembled. Had to be bored out 1mm, so I get a bump in displacement and compression from some nice flat top pistons he found. Also has ACL rod and main bearings. Had everything else hot tanked to get rid of the greasy nastiness. I'll have the factory ZE pistons and other extras for sale soon.

More parts, kinda spendy but very unique. This will finish up everything I need for the body.
    Custom Morette style headlights.

    JDM Familia bumper

Had the past seven days off after the outage but said screw it and went to Florida for a little R&R.
