Default What this in the trunk

MY friend has a VW Passat 4 door and theres something mounted in the trunk in the back. I was guessing a CD player cuz theres all these wires mounted behind it WHAT IS IT?

Theres a metal casing around it and inside it feels like a cd player but we dont know how to open the metal casing

Its the amp for the speakers. He has the monsoon sound system (VWs poor excuse for an upgraded system), correct? That is the speaker amp there mounted near the seatbacks on the passenger side. Is this where you are talking about?

normally the amp is black and is mounted up under the rear deck... the cars come w/ changers which are located on the driver side of the trunk mounted around the rear quarter

Most likley his car did not come with a changer however it is pre-wired for one. If you open the "first aid" (i put the quotes around it since they dont actually supply a first aid kit, just the rack) door, you will see the wiring for it and where it COULD go.
