Default How long is too long for an acoustic set?

    Here is the scenario:

You hit up a bar with some friends (or alone because you are an alcoholic), and it turns out that tonight there is an acoustic show. There are 3 solo acoustic acts playing and all of them are original artists as opposed to cover bands (so they will do some of the songs you know and love, but are much more concentrated on their music). You think to yourself, "fuck I hate when they have live music because it's too loud to have a conversation with this skank I'm trying to take home", but then you hear an original song or two with a good beat and decide to stick around.

How long before you start getting bored of the guy on stage?

The reason I ask is because last weekend I was one of those acts. They guy who set up the event asked each one of us to play for an hour, but I wouldn't do anymore than 25-30 min because I figure people will get bored. Hell, listening to the other guys that night, at about 40 min I was ready to suffocate myself with a plastic bag... and they weren't even that bad.

25 -30 set is perfect. Not so short that you don't make your point and to long to the point where i want to throw a dirty ashtray at stage.

I really didn't think that anyone would ever respond to this. Needless to say, fuck playing for an hour.

Well that's the difference though. Id love to see a lead singer from my favorite band play an hour acoustic set... not so much some dbag in a bar.

i think that you should have a max of five songs and a min of two. thats how i did it whenever i was in a post-hardcore/metal band back in high school.
