Good article. When did people's expectations of the rookie QB change so drastically? Cam Newton is the only amazing rookie QB ive seen in my lifetime.

cam newton is the truth, period. He has put carolina in position to win every single game this season, but the defense and special teams give it away. He put up 400+ yards against the superbowl champions as a rookie and I believe he is third right now on the list of passing leaders. His first game was very impressive considering how he handled the blitz and coverage schemes of a "pro" defensive unit. He is by far the best rookie QB right now.
no doubt, Cam is a future great and barring injury looks like he could redefine the QB position. My thing is, why do these analyst grade all these rookie QBs so harshly? its like if youre not Cam Newton straight out of college, you suck. Most of my lifetime, rookie QBs suck.... just the way it is. When did this change? Elway sucked, Montana sucked, Young was absolutely terrible......
My first address will be to these two comments. Unless you're meaning to say that he has definitely shown the potential to being "the truth" or a "future great," then your comments shouldn't be taken too seriously. I remember when Matt Ryan came to Atlanta. He had some pretty nifty shoes to fill with the ousting if Vick. His first few games (heck, that whole first season) a lot of people on here (as well as all over) were all over him about being The One. While I acknowledged his season as a superb one, I knew that you can't let a few good games or a good season dictate in your mind that this dude was the real deal. Just like players can have bad fluke years, they can have good ones. How do you know Newton won't be worth shit next year? How do you know he won't be a rookie sensation and that's it? But back to Ryan. So far, he has upheld most people's thoughts of him being the shit out there. He has been great for the Falcons these last few years. Potentially-wise, Cam Newton has it. There's no argument there. Is he the truth? Hell no. It's only halfway through his first year. You're not the truth in your first year. But he could damn sure get there if he continues.
Joe Montana didn't really suck. Elway wasn't that bad, either. Steve Young? Yeah he didn't fair too well.
Cam is actually number 13 as of this evening. I agree, though, on the last part of this. He is the best rookie QB out there right now. He hasn't had much competition, though. Isn't Tim the only other rookie playing? If so, he just started starting so it's not fair to compare these two. Later, QD.
Have any of you seen andy dalton this year??? Cam is pretty good, but I think andy's career will be better. Keep an eye out!
