needing some help, IACV??

I just picked up a 96 integra with a JDM gsr,

the car would only run cold, so i went to replace the thermostat, which did not have one from the beginning, so i have a new one in it, but now, the car idles all crazy,

it idles at 2500rpm and will drop to 1000 every now and then, and then will go back to 2500.

and does that but mostly stays around 2500, so i was thinking, if I clean my Idle air control valve if that might solve the problem?



any input will help, trying to get the car 100%




and if anyone knows anything about emissions i could really use your help, its 0bd2

Check for vacume leaks. Unplug the iacv and see what the car does. Or adjust the throttle cable also... Sounds like a vacume leak too me...Is the idle surging up and down?

i was thinking that also,
its like when im i drop it out of 3rd gear, it will drop to arounk 1k, then spike back to 2500. then drop to 2k every now and again, but mostly stays at 2500

so this happened when you replaced the thermostat? I've seen sometimes after you drain the coolant system it takes awhile for coolant to reach the iacv and will not get an accurate reading on the temp. It will cause weird rpm fluctuation.

Yes, does this mean it will fix itself in time?

I have never seen it not fix itself. However, the longest time I've seen it take is 20-25 min of idling. Check to make sure your coolant is as full as possible to help the system pressurize and push the coolant into the iacv. Afterwards if it's still acting up pull the coolant line off of the iacv and check to see if it is actually getting coolant.

I will do, I fixed some vacuum lines and it stays around 1k now but moves up and down between 1k and 1200

clean the iacv with brakleen, or any brake parts cleaner youll be able to tell if its dirty, black shit will run out of it and adjust the tps sensor also loosen the 2 screws on the tps and it should move, my gsr was jerkin alot spiratically and also idle surging and adjusting the tps and cleaning the iacv just ab cleared it completely

X2 also your thermostat might be bad. I had the same problem on my civic si, changed the thermostat, cleaned the IACV, flushed to coolant, and nothing was working. It was a faulty thermostat even though it was brand new, the guy at the parts store said sometimes they get skipped over on the operational check process by the manufacturer before they arive at the parts store. So it nothing else seems to work, take it back and try another one out

i fixed the thermostat and fixed the vacuum lines!!! she is purring like a mammoth!!!! (in a good way)
she still feels sluggish. im guessing because if the ls transmission, i need a gsr tranny
