Thread: Integra Tan to Black

    Default Integra Tan to Black

After a week or so of looking for replace my Tan interior and seeing that it would cost aprox. $500 to buy all black used parts I changed gears and went with paint.

I spent three days striping the interior getting it ready.

I used Rubbing Alcohol and TureGreen to clean the dash before paint.

I picked up 5 cans of SEM Satin Black Paint and 1 can of Adhesion Promoter

    $82.00 value

    Here are the paint supplies

Here is me about to spray the Adhesion Promoter

Here is the dash before the first coat

Here is the dash after the first coat

There was only one place where I saw some fish eye it was where the gauge cluster goes so I'll have to clean that area again before the next coat.

A quick side note the SEM is a dye not a paint.

Way worse it smells kind of like an oil based paint only much stronger.

I thought about painting my interior, but decided to spend the money and do an interior swap. It's actually nice swapping out an old interior and putting new pieces it in makes you feel like the car is newer. I do not think this will look good in the long run for you.

I would agree with you had I spent $3-$4 a can for spray paint. However I spent $12.00 a can on spray dye. the SEM "paint" is supposed to change the color of the surface of what you are "painting". The look so far is fantastic and it still feels oem. I did a civic about 8 years ago with a standard rattle can and it turned out good but felt sticky when it would heat up in the car. The SEM is not supposed to do that.

On another note I got the steering wheel with airbag put back in the car and took the car around the block to confirm it still works. I will post more pictures soon.

Several. I'm just lucky enough to be able to let the car just sit in my garage. The harder smell to get rid of was the smoked in smell that the black seat belts came with.

This is nothing new. Its been around for some time now.

Honestly, I would never paint my interior. Just, not the same as having the actually factory colored trim. But, do your thing I guess. It doesn't look bad if its done right but I give it 6 months tops before it starts chipping in certain area's.

I would again agree IF I had used $3-$4 a can spray paint. However I used a spray DYE not paint. Anyway I would put $100.00 on a bet that it lasts more than 6 months. Based on the information I got in the SEM products I would guess it will last as long as I own the car as long as I properly prep the surface.

You still have to be careful. My old del Sol had some of the gray interior pieces dyed with the exact same stuff about 6 months before I bought it. It had chipped a little around the edges, and the formerly grey vinyl under the dye was darker as a result of the dye absorbing into it, but the top coat still chipped at the corners and edges. It was definitely a vast improvement over the cheap-o spray paint, but just keep in mind that it's not a factory vinyl covering, so be gentle with it.

    Nice work, though.

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.
