Default Over Heating/ No heat/ really hard cold starts

go to crank my car this morning and it starts moaning groaning etc... after 10 min of cranking it finally turns over. so i get in it to take off for work and i notice the temp. gauge is a little higher then normal. So I keep an eye on it and it starts creeping really high( not to the red zone but darn close) during this whole process my heat is ICE COLD and my resovoir bucket is spewing out fluid. Im thinkin a thermostat thats stuck closed. any opinions before i waste the money???

sounds like a serious headgasket to me. you cranking it for 10 mins was you getting the coolant out of the cylinders enough to start it. and the over heating and the overflow spilling out was combustion gases going directly into the coolant system.

head gasket or cranked block or head.

t-stat is not going to make you crank over for 10 mins to get it to start.

if you ever have coolant temps issues... always always look for leaks first... thats the number one reason a lot of issues stem from. low coolant. then start looking at other easy fixes that are most likely. t-stats depending on the car are fairly reliable. and replacing one for fun. or you think is the problem is no the best way to go about fixing somehting, even if something indicates that it might be a t-stat... its called di-ag.....
