Default VTEC problem, in the opposite direction; kicking down instead of up....

OK, im running with an lsvtec and it has ZERO problems going into vtec, but where its problem lies is coming off of vtec after im done driving it in vtec. I can tell it sticks because i hear the lower rpms sputter and idle horribly, and the valves all sound like they're still opening extra wide. A few seconds later, itll throw my CEL. I can turn the car off and as soon as i restart it, all returns back to normal.

What could this be, do i need to replace the vtec solenoid plunger?? Or could it be an electrical thing, like i need to ground my oil pressure switch better? I have it grounded on the VC right now... lmk.

lol yeah, motor is pretty new, but the part thats not new is the vtec solenoid, etc. The oil psi sensor/switch is new though. And ill pull up what code it is next time it pops up. I remember checking it a long time ago, and i think it was either 21 or 22.

LOL and its not neccesarily full of problems haha, i just want to get it 10000% sorted out so it runs almost absolutely perfectly, so i almost go looking for little issues here and there, just so i can fix them.

1st remove yours and clean the screen. Also - if you have a friend with one, run his and see if that's the fix. Then if it is - purchase the new/used one. Also make sure you are running good oil and are not low.

Make sure your wiring is correct, but since its just the solenoid, you can get one for $75 or less.

lol wut? there's no PROBLEMS with the conversion, I personally think its mechanical, like the solenoid plunger just gets stuck in the "vtec ON" position....

try a different ecu w/ your chip. just try it. it's ecu or other electrical. if the solinoid was sticking mechanically then it wouldn't reset itself when you turn off then back on.

Hm, i never thought about that....

I may just try to re-ground the oil pressure switch in a different place with a heavier gauge wire first and see what it does...

EDIT: i grounded the 18gauge groundwire on my oil pressure switch directly to the chassis, instead of on the valve cover, and it is MUCH better at coming off of vtec. It does still have the tendency, but its nowhere near as bad. It at least was smooth enough to not throw the CEL, but i could still tell it was still sending a slightly energized signal to my ecu, telling it to keep the vtak ON...

I wonder, if i would need to use a little bit heavier of a gauged wire to get it to even more smoothly come off of vtec...?
