Just got home from the fight. Yeah I bust out laughing when they said he won.
Shogun won the fight IMO, but he didnt win it by enough to win the belt by decision, thats what it comes down to.
As the owner of the belt, all Machida had to do was DEFEND the belt, which i think he did. If there was no belt on the line, Shogun wins, but since Machida was the owner of the title, i dont think shogun did enough to win the belt by decision.

Oh so you have to clearly win the belt to take it away? i did not know that
well i know in boxing its hard to win the belt by decision unless you REALLY kick his ass without a KO.
While i think Shogun won, i dont think he won by enough to get the belt, imo of course

also, Machida is my favorite fighter but he did get beat a little. Did anyone ever care to think that what the commentators were saying could be correct? They said the judges scoring is different from what you see. Shogun did beat him a bit but like the other guy said, leg kicks?????? also look how many kicks he missed. i think shogun kicked/swung a crap load but only landed like 20%. everytime Machida kneed him or striked, i say he landed about 80% (which suprisingly he didnt strike too much). Anyone think of it that way? Its not how the guy looks at the end, its point fighting/stats.
I think shogun landed a lot of kicks, like it or not that does score points. Machida played back and played it safe .
Shogun took like 1000 strikes landed 20%
Machida took 100 strikes landed 80%
But as the challenger you have to be the aggressor so shogun did the right thing. I think it was a good technical fight, Machida deserved to retain the belt

yeah well atleast people know now that Machida is not unbeatable.
i just now got the chance to see the fight, but i got to agree with mike. it was a really good fight, i think machida should have won, but then again i like him more than shogun. shogun did a hell of a good job trying, but i just don't think he did enough. it seems he did win 2 rounds but it majority what takes the belt. machida seemed to have done just that.
i do see a rematch in the future though.
Was a good one. I personally think it will be a while before Machida loses. Machida got hit more in that fight than in any other and he still won. Off topic, before he gets a rematch with Machida I think he should fight Anderson Silva. If Shogun is on as he was Saturday night, that would be a good fight.
i think Silva would wreck Shogun and Dana White said that they will be fighting again in 3-4 months instead of the usual 8-10 month wait for re matches.
Who do yall pick in the Diego Sanchez vs Bj Penn fight in Dec?
penn by tko in the third, but im a penn fan.
yeah i am to but i just dont think he can compete at the level of Sanchez for 3 rounds his stamina is just not on that level
REMATCH!
I would say Sanchez, Penn is good and im a fan of both. It's tough, but Sanchez pushes the pace quite a bit. I dont think BJ can stand that for too long....
Good evening sir, did you know that thousands of my potential children died on your daughters face last night !?
Its all about politics. I am a huge Machida fan, since he also trains with my favorite fighter Anderson Silva. They are both in the same team, Black House as well as Big Nog and Little Nog.
About the fight, knowing that I am a Machida fan, Shogun did win that fight. Even Joe Rogan said this during the fight, "How many people would like to see Shogun face Anderson Silva" since he was clearly winning the fight. Shogun clearly dominated the last three rounds. However, its all about the politics. Machida was 15-0 coming into this fight. He just started the Machida Karate era which brings fans into the UFC. He just completely killed Rashad Evans.
Clearly there is politics involved in this fight....regardless of what people say. I know the judges are hired by the athletic commission of California....but something just wasn't right there, even Dana White went up to Shogun right after the fight and told him, "You won the fight".
