DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Two Fayette County high school teachers, who are also romantically involved with each other, are accused of soliciting prostitutes to spice up their bedroom life, according to police.
Police arrested Douglas Dee, a band teacher at Whitewater High School and his girlfriend, Kelly Butler, a chorus teacher at Whitewater, during a police sting which targeted adults who use the networking Web site Craigslist for prostitution.
The two teachers are also in trouble because they never reported their arrests to the Fayette County School System.
Police told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones that Dee and Butler saw an advertisement on Craigslist, contacted the person and said they wanted two women.
Prosecutors said the duo drove to a Dunwoody hotel and offered $200 to the two women, who turned out to be undercover police officers.
“I believe they wanted an African American female and a Caucasian female as a prostitute,” said Solicitor General Robert James. Authorities said they’ve had numerous problems with people using Craigslist for prostitution.
“Craigslist is out of control. I mean … it’s the virtual street corner here in DeKalb County and all over the nation,” said James. Dee pleaded not guilty in court Thursday morning. Butler waived her appearance.
Jones tried to get Dee's side of the story, but his attorney declined to comment.
“Mr. Dee has no comment. Mr. Dee is not guilty until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, thank you,” said Dee's Attorney Matt McCord.
