Default How about some good news from a rapper?

And I mean an actual rapper. Not an entertainer. I have never been a fan of Luda, but I have liked his stuff as he has a helluva delivery style. Here is an article about some good shit he did recently. It's about time a rapper stepped up and did something in a positive light. Hopefully, there is no BS behind the scenes:

Rapper Ludacris gives away cars to contest winners
    Sept. 7, 2009, 5:35 AM EST

MORROW, Ga. (AP) -- Talk about a one-man stimulus package: Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris has given away 20 cars to people who wrote about their struggles to keep their jobs for a lack of wheels of their own.

Ludacris said he was taken aback after reading thousands of essays by people struggling or unable to buy cars needed to get to and from work or find jobs. The 31-year-old rapper felt he could step in and move them ahead, partnering with a suburban Atlanta dealership for Sunday's giveaway.

"People are getting laid off, and now are looking for jobs," Ludacris said. "To be efficient, you need some transportation of your own to get there. That's why I wanted to give back to those who need it."

Each of the used vehicles included free gas for 30 days. Winning contestants were responsible for tags, registration, tax and insurance. About 4,000 contestants submitted a 300-word essay to the rapper's foundation, explaining why they deserved a car.

One of the most touching stories Ludacris read was by Mading Duor.

Duor described how he moved to the United States six years ago after his mother, father, and five brothers and sisters were killed in Sudan. The man also wrote that a son was killed by a drunken driver in Atlanta a few years back.

"His story touched my heart," Ludacris said. "He's endured so much in his life and he's still here standing. I'm very proud to have helped him."

Duor, 33, has been able to keep a steady job at a school, but each day he felt stressed about how he was going to get to work. No longer.

"I'm so happy, that I'm nervous," said Duor, who won a Nissan Maxima. "When I look at my new car, I say to myself, 'Is this really happening?'"

Crystal Beauford, a single mother who used to ride the bus to two jobs and school, now has a Saturn Ion. The 26-year-old college student doesn't know how to drive the stick-shift vehicle, but said she'll learn.

"This is going to help me out so much," Beauford said. "It's a blessing."

Luda has always done good things; going back to 2000/01 when he was still getting started. Even while at the radio station he did lots of community work.

I will stretch further and save several rappers do great things in terms of community service. The problem is that media outlets focus much more on the negative aspects (ratings). TI for instance, gives back so much, but its over shadowed by his own ignorance. The MTV show he did was late and over due.

QD, when you say rapper, who else did you have in mind?

Most rappers that do do good are only doing good because that was a part of their sentencing from a criminal act. Hence TI's show. And no good deed (and I mean not made so by the court system) should go unnoticed, but Luda's was on a more grand scale and he also doesn't have a history of negativity behind him. Later, QD.

if i remember correctly (i can't remember specifically) but TI did some stuff prior to his sentencing. just that show he did was to help others to NOT do the same thing, but he's given back to the community in similar ways as to Luda, just like airmax said, its overshadowed but the negativity he does.

Like I said, good deeds are good deeds, but TI hasn't done anything close to what Luda just did here. Of course Luda just did this, so we'll see if what Luda did is a precursor to things to come. It would be a great deal of good if he spawns a new age of giving back to people. And it doesn't have to be people that gave to him. That helped put him where is today. I bet half the people that got those cars have never even bought a Luda CD. And that's great stuff. To give to all people and not just a select.

The Luda Foundation has been around since 2001. He has been giving back for a long time. It doesn't always matter about the magnitude, but each year he gives more and more.

All of TI's community work was not court ordered. Like I said, his recent acts were put on blast due to the gun charges. He has worked with the BGCA for years.

That's why I made sure to mention that good deeds are good deeds no matter the size. But I also like how Luda went outside just the community adn helped anyone in need.

I only singled out the TV show because it was singled out to me. That show would not exist had it not been for The Man, lolol. Later, QD.
