    Arrow Opinions: Job opening at Best Buy

    Hello all,

    I've had this big problem i've been contemplating about. I recently had a job offering at best buy, in the computer department. It seems like a really good job, etc. but i've asked around and have had mixed opinions on working at best buy. All i want to really know is, people who are working there or formerly working there, is it worth it? I mean, in the long run, does anyone here think it's an ok job for the next year of my life? There just seems so many pros and cons of my current job, and the job they're giving me at best buy. o well, i'll await everyone's replies...

    Why not? Some of us have worked at Best Buy and know how shitty it really is. I worked at Best Buy for a year and hated every single minute of it. They don't pay shit for the amount of work they make you do. Circuit City, Fry's, Brandsmart, Hifi Buys, even Hhgregg pay more than what Best Buy does. Best Buy managers are always on your ass about stupid shit and they also make threats too. I would not recommend

    i look at it this way, if your not making any less money going there, and if it is a good career choice (computers) for you then its a good idea. if you don't know jack shit aobut computers and are looking for some type of job for the next year i would suggest another position. either way you get a discount there and it kicks ass b/c BB has everything cool

    well after visiting the new one on 124 this weekend - they definitely need some good computer guys - those guys didn't know squat.

    but one of my good friends worked there for a couple months and absolutely hated it. he said it was one of the worst jobs he's had - that the management treats you like shit.
    Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it!

    u live in gwinnett? By any chance are you considering the store on pleasant hill (504)... I worked in the computer department for almost a year... seriously the job SUCKS! Its straight bullshit. You have to sit there and lie to customers, misrepresent information, you get tired of the bullshit... and fake smiles!!
    i still know just about everyone in PCHO department... some of my boys are still there.

    My advice: get hired at BB, stay for a month or two... (get the training in.. which best buy is known for having the best)... then walk into frys tell them that you work at best buy and want to work there... bam they'll usually hire you on the spot.. set you up with and interview... you get PAID at frys and its much more laid back...

    Everything everybody has been saying is true. BB tries pulling the whole "we're a team" bullshit by having those gay ass Saturday morning meetings but it's the worst job ever. And so far no one has said anything good about the place. I remember when i first started working there i thought it was going to be the shit b/c yea it's Best Buy! :jerkit: Hasan (RandomGuy) worked there with me and so did Naveed (NzProjectz sp?). It's not all its cut out to be

    2) Promise raises
    3) When it comes time for a raise the managers ride your ass until they can find something to fire you over
    4) You end up quiting the job because you know your about to get fired over some stupid shit!!
    By hiring another person to replace you is cheaper then giving a hard worker a raise!!

    That is soooooo true. One of my managers got fired b/c he had a cell phone. Like he said, they'd rather hire someone else and pay them less instead of giving you a raise. That's why their training program is so good, like someone else said. Hasan was actually fired for a very stupid reason too. I forgot what it was but he'll probably post it up.

    We're talking about actually working at a store, not which one gives the better shopping experience. But i was working at BB when Fry's opened up and i remember a lot of coworkers going over there

    I only lasted 3 months there. Was only there for the discount. Management does suck. Pay was $9 @ the time so it was alright... The amount of kiss ass you gotta do and up sales that u gotta do to get nothing in return sucks. If the store's shrink is bad...its your fault. Hours sucked... I didn't like it at all...

    BEST BUY is worth just as much as my shit, I worked there for half a year at the southlake pavillion location, someone there is always on your fukin ass, they always bitch about hitting the daily sales, and shrink is a bitch, like its your damn fault that ppl steal shit and get away...but the one good side to it is the discount, they dont really give you a certain % dicount but if I had to make a rough estimate it would be about 40-50%, depending on what you're trying to buy. I wouldnt work there if I was you especially in the computer department because they have to make the most in one day, meaning you are going to get your ass chewed out.
