Default Police keep Texans RB from seeing dying mother-in-law

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...3/26/moats.ap/

That is just completely messed up. Just saw it on NFL live. They held the dude in the parking lot of the hospital while his mother-in-law passed away.

Not surprised.. I mean, cops aren't the brightest of the pack.. They go by the book, and can't seem to veer from that..

From what I read the cop did everything right by the book. He had every right to pull his weapon and tell the wife to get back in the car. He could have used a little better judgment, but he has only been on the force 3 years so he is still a bit wet behind the ears. IMO, the only ones in the wrong here are the Moats' for getting out of the car in the first place.

Think of it like a cop. You make a stop for someone doing a rolling stop at a red light. As soon as you get out of the car this huge, pissed guy gets out of the car and starts coming at you. What do you do? I can assure you that the first thing I do is pull my weapon and point it at him. Then his wife gets out of the car screaming at you, you tell her to get back in the car. The excuses mean nothing as people will say anything to get out of a ticket. The only fault I could see if that he didnt let them go when the other cop confirmed that his mother in law was dying. Then again, Moats was belligerent so maybe I would have still wrote him the ticket.

Cops in GA arent intelligent, but dont assume that of all of them. I know in Chicago you have to have a BA be a cop.

As far as going by the book, you have to go by the book or you open yourself to lawsuits.

^WOW...you can confidently say that? with how calm Moates(sp?) acted with the situation at hand? i would have been irate if i came to the hospital to see a family member that was about to pass away and being held up for 20 minutes for a red light that was said to not have been working correctly. IMO the family is a class act for not wanting this guy to lose his job, for a situation like that, i'd be happy to see him lose his job for a stunt such as that, makes no sense. a 20 minute stop for running a red light that doesnt work is freaking retarded.

    Of course you'd say that.
If you watched the video footage with an unbiased and open mind( I know how hard that actually is for you) then maybe your opinion on the issue would be a little different. If your mother in law was in the midst of taking her last breaths, I seriously doubt you'd handle the situation any differently, for yourself or your wife.

And Moats was actually a lot calmer in the situation than I would have been, I know that much.

The police officer resigned today, just one day after saying how scared he was to lose his job.

Good. IMO. Moats was fairly calm and respectful. Did he punch that cop in the face and walk in? No. Would I have? yes.

i think he was just trying to get thru everything as fast as he could. but the cop was very well asking for a knockout.

but when the cop was notified about Moats family member being inside in very critical condition and just saying "i'll be done in a min".
that is fucking wrong. if i was the cop, i would have escorted him inside and finished the situation afterwards. at least he would have been able to pay his respects and i would still have a my job.
