Acura steals pole position from Audi, Peugeot at 12 Hours of Sebring qualifying!

    Autoblog...

Tuesday's first official day of testing for the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race saw the new Audi R15 dominate its long-time foes from Peugeot and two new entries from Acura in the fastest LMP1 class. Peugeot bounced back in Wednesday's testing session, however, with the quickest lap times of the day. We fully expected today's official qualifying session to be a knock down, drag out battle between the Europeans for pole position. No one saw this coming.

Scott Dixon of De Ferran Motorsports driving one of the new Acura ARX-02a cars set the fastest lap time in qualifying and has earned a spot ahead of the big boys on the starting grid. Dixon managed a 1:45.278 lap time that just barely edged out legendary Le Mans racer Tom Kristensen in a brand spanking new Audi R15 by 0.082 seconds. Following the Acura and Audi will be the #7 Peugeot 908 HDi, which qualified 0.184 seconds behind the fastest Acura with Christian Klein at the wheel. Our kudos go to Acura and the De Ferran Motorsports team for achieving such a big victory before the 12 Hours of Sebring even begins. Of course, the hard part starts on Saturday and lasts a lot longer than just one lap.

For those that did not see qualifing.

Just go to a bar or something Saturday evening and watch the finish of it lol, someone will probably have a TV at Road Atlanta watching it. I was camping as usual but forgot it's Sebring weekend so am skipping Saturday.

There is a sports bar if you turn right out of RA it's on your left when you get close to 85, right after you pass the BMW place.

Best place to watch racing at RA? We always setup camp and stuff at T3.

    for petit...
turn 5 is a great spot to see the downforce and corner speed of the p-cars
then turn 10 and 7 at night. 7 is a good spot to get really close to the cars and watch some off-throttle flames.
10 is a good place to see some rotors glowing and nice passing.
if your looking for outright speed, then turn 9 is where its at.

for scca, turn one, thats where the mayhem usually is. but I like 5,7, and 10.

Acura on top! with Gil de Farren no less. Scott Dixon driving the car to beat the Audis and the Peugots. Awesome effort by the whole team, that is a program that was put together really quickly and has done extremely well. I really hope the cars stay together for the whole race. I know they have had some hydraulic steering issues.
Pretty soon, everyone is gonna have 4 rear tires on their cars, hahaha.

haha, nevermind i spoke to soon.

EDIT: One thing i didnt know about and that my dad told me was that the acura lmp1 team is running the same size tires on the care in front and rear. for quicker cornering and such, thats pretty diffferent. it hasnt been done in years.

Problems for a lot of people.

McNish is gone out front. We still have a long race to see the R15 prove itself.

    BMW #90 is having trouble.

    PEUGEOT > ALL

GT2 Robertson They are the underdog so I route for them, and they test a lot at RA.

I wonder if Audi #2 will be pulling those insane quad stints. I think Florida is to stressing on the driver to do it. Maybe 2.5-3.0 stints.

We'll see. McNish is an iron man in the car.

Pretty good fight between Audi and Peugeot. That was a daring pass when they came up on the #44 car.
