Jpeg 80% of the time. Raw when I'm gonna be in an area with different types of lighting in one session and I don't have time to set the custom white balance every time I walk into a room with tungsten lighting, or go outside under a streetlight etc.

For me jpeg 90% of the time.
I shoot RAW 98% of the time. I shoot jpeg if I am covering Road Atlanta but thats it.
i shoot jpeg about 90% of the time.. I dont be feeling like dealing with RAW for simple shit..

I shoot RAW everytime. The only reason I won't if I am selling something or taking a basic quick pic.

The cool thing about RAW is that you retain an alterable original. If you make adjustments to a JPEG file and hit "save", it now becomes the final draft. In RAW, you can always come back and make adjustments and re-save.
with my d40 i always used jpeg but now that i have lightroom2 and my d80 i use raw.
we know..and were gonna keep recommending it till u get it thru that thick noggin on your shouldersimma put this out there.....

teach me and ill shoot in raw and if i see a difference i wont shoot in jpeg anymore. if my color is off i normally just run a warm/cool filter over the photo and its fine.
i have cs2, and i dont have lightroom or any of that fancy pants stuff
no..u don't have to convert at all..shit..how many times have we talked back and forth about shooting in RAW..i'm not saying in every situation..For example, your sisters wedding..you bet for damn sure i would of shot that in RAW/or if u have someone paying you top dollar for a project u would def. want to be in control of the image.Granted, it'll require more work on your part, but if you are doing any kind of critical work whether for yourself or for clients, its important..Sure it also has its disadvantages, but if you really plan to make a professional career out of this, your gonna use it down the road.LOL whoa do i need to convert from a raw file to jpeg.

its doesn't matter if your running CS2..i ran it for the longest time till i finally upgraded..and it got the job done for me everytime..And remember in PS, when u edit pics, you LOSE information as you work with it. Why wouldn't you want as much data as you possibly can??
Lightroom is just a way to organize..yeah, u can do some light editing, but its better used for your digital workflow to keep all them purdy pictures organized...
and i even told you before if you needed any kind of programs, let me know.I know your of the up and coming that will put it to good use...I didn't type all that shit for my healthI know this pic taking stuff ain't cheap..i've spent more on equipment in a year than what i spent on my car in 3. we all need the help and friendly/helpful advice we can get...

im trying not to continue to fight this, part of me wants to give in and see what all the hype is but part of me whats to say fuck all that and get it right straight out the camera. imma do some research on it and give it a shot.

honestly, dude, it comes down to whatever you prefer in the long..if shooting only in jpeg and screaming in every thread title that you take pictures, then by all means. do your thang homey. I just keep pushing that button so you'll give it a try..who knows, u might like it...what do you have to lose.like u say, you want to learn as much as possible right..How can you if don't experience your passion on all the aspects of it....
like i said before, i don't recommend it all the time....it takes mad amounts of memory..longer transfer times...more space on the card....but like anything..it has ups and downs...i mainly shoot Jpeg..but if it something where i might be getting paid for, or doing some serious editing for my graphic design work using images, raw is the best way to go.

For some reason my copy of CS2 wont read my D40's NEF files (If anyone knows a fix, PLEASE let me know). So with that, I shoot JPEG Fine all the time. I lost some great pictures too cause I thought it would read RAW.
Your camera should have come with a CD at the very least with a basic RAW program. Start there and you can mess with exposure, wb, curves, colors, noise tools etc.
I actually use the Canon Pro Photo RAW or whatever. I like it a lot. Then I use CS3. Just my work flow and I like it

raw 50 % of the time, and film 50% of the time.
