    Default Hard Candy

In this suspenseful drama from director David Slade, Hayley (Ellen Page) is an intelligent teen who's been spending time with Geoff (Patrick Wilson), a much older man she met online. Even though Geoff is a charming, good-looking photographer, Hayley should know better than to go home with a guy in his early thirties, especially since he may have ulterior motives. Of course, Hayley may have underlying motives of her own...
So I've had this sitting on my shelf for a while and never got around to watching until the other night. Holy hell, talk about good suspense.

    PROS
    - Excellent Suspense Scenes (Finding a child porn stash, castration, character history, ect...)
    - Human Characters (Not really good guy vs. bad guy)
    - Controversial Subject Matter
    - Good use of cinematography

    CONS
    - Hayley acts much older than she should at times. (Seems like an odd character)
    - Too many plot twists and turns in the last half hour.
    - Ending leaves a bit to be desired.

This movie seriously has like 4 people in the entire thing. From beginning to end there is always something that has you anxious for the answer or biting your lip from disgust. The movie itself was excellent but it almost ruined by an overdone ending. It was like they tried to fit in too many things in the last quarter or so. Still definitely worth a watching for anyone that enjoys uncomfortable suspense films.

    Final Grade: B+

True but, being an indy film, it really gets overlooked.

lol, I figured someone was bound to say something sooner or later. The story about him and his cousin when they were kids was pretty f*cked up.

Well, 85% of my movie collection is anime and that's probably an underestimate. What are some other films of the same style you'd recommend or that are on your shelf?

I feel the same way. The movie really makes you uneasy and pretty much leaves you that way.

Umm I am more into the dramatic stuff,

American Beauty, A Beautiful Mind, Fight Club, Requiem For a Dream, Donnie Darko, Pi, The Fountain, etc.

I have a lot of stupid comedy too, but If I want to watch a real movie, ones like the above are what I shoot for.

I actually just got done watching Seven Pounds. Well worth it IMO

Not a bad list, though I've yet to see Requiem and I consider Donnie Darko and Fight Club to be highly overrated. If you like American Beauty and Hard Candy, try to find an older film titled Magenta. It's a decent "youth seduction destroys family" drama.

I can't stand stupid comedy for the most part. I can barely get through an Austin Powers movie and almost anything with Will Ferrell makes me want to hang myself. I like drama, suspense, action, and the occassional sci-fi flick. Saving Private Ryan, The Last Samurai, American Beauty, American Psycho, things like that. Also, anything the exploits that most evil things in people (murder, rape, ect.) and portrays them in a decent fashion in a tasteful fashion is good in my book. Things like SAW are just rediculous though. lol

I almost put American Psycho on the list, then I was like, nah, he will get it.

I hate the Austin Powers (even though I do own them) I just have this disorder where I try to collect....
