    Default HID problem/question

    i just bought a pair of ballast off of ebay. i dont know whats wrong because when i had my regular halogen lights they came on but when i plugged it it the ballast my hid wont come on. do anybody know whats wrong? do i need a relay?

    swap the ballasts/bulbs around and make sure the polarity is right..

    If the polarity is backwards they will not come on. You also need to be sure your wiring can sustain the added amperage draw, if not then you will have issues with them lighting.

    will the relay fix the "add amperage draw"? so the ballast uses more volts right? kinda confuse

    use a relay for its battery power, and use the headlight signal to switch it

    Exactly, that's how many add on harnesses run the wiring. It doesn't require more voltage, just more amperage for the first few seconds they're running then it drops to about half the amperage of a halogen bulb. You can hear this if you turn the lights on while the car is off, after a few seconds they will get much quieter and this corresponds to the drop in amperage draw.

    An 12v+ relay harness from pepboys or advance, wherever will solve this problem. I had to run one on my Mustang and my Tacoma.
