Exclamation Subaru launches STI 20th Anniversary Edition

The 20th Anniversary WRX STI will be limited to just 300 units

It's hard to believe the Subaru Impreza WRX STI has been around in some form or another for 20 years already, but a special edition commemorating that fact was released today in Japan. Limited to just 300 units, the car will feature a range of upgrades above and beyond the standard STI along with special badging and other unique touches.

The primary upgrades are to the car's handling. Special coilover dampers that offer a firmer ride and quicker transitions give the 20th Anniversary STI more bite, while a choice of paint colors - as long as you choose white - and 18-inch cast aluminum wheels give the car a unique look. A black lip spoiler gives a subtly enhanced aggression to the front end, a black-colored rear spoiler provides a functional bit of downforce, and special badging and door-sill plates confirm to anyone that's interested that this is, indeed, a special edition.

Inside, the car gets more custom treatment with a set of Recaro seats featuring cherry-red stitching and a leather shifter knob. Small touches, including a cherry-red leather key fob pouch, help remind the driver on a daily basis of the special nature of the car. Unfortunately for Subaru-lovers everywhere, the car will only be available in Japan, priced to start at ¥4,126,500.

Congratulations to Subaru STI's 20th year! As for the car, I really like this one! Looks really clean with the white paint job too! Hope to see one here in the US.

Bit of a disappointment to other specials when you remember that it is an STI. The new STI feels more conservative all together but this is just getting comfy. I really think that should have been a bit more aggressive.

Just look at the immediate predecessor.

Cellebrating 20 years of Sexually Transmitted infections.

In all seriousness, it seems nice. The suspension and the functional wings as well as those wheels seem like a good package. Some companies just give a car a badge and call it a special model.

yeah, OEM body components are ricey. dunno if this was sarcasm but i completely disagree in this case.

as for the limited... meh. i work at scoobaru and we have an 07 limited (108 of 800) that just feels much more like a sports car than the 08s.

the interior kinda disappoints me because its pretty much EXACTLY the same as EVERY subaru interior, save for the stitching. To be fair though, thats probably because Im in and out of hundreds of Subies every week.

The first STI looked the best. the one that started it all. The one Collin McRea used to get subaru winning the WRC

That body style has officially set in with me, I like it a lot. But I would still prefer an 05-07 or an older RS.

Still don't like the new body style. I don't think they're necessarily hideous, but I'd take any of the previous STi's over it.

So is this, there s205 model or have they yet to make it? Either way this one is still far from good looking. Instead of making it a super-detailed car they should've added some minor aggressive body parts. Some fancy rims and some serious upgrades.

But noooo, all they came up with were some cheap ass upgrades and a car that still is ugly and far from kewl.

The new one looks to lexus-ish. "TOYOTA IS RESPOSIBLE!!!!!" for the uglyness.
