Esurance What a bunch of assholes!
last week i was watching TV and an Esurance commercial came on. here it is:

it showed the Erin Esurance animated superhero destroying some big robot that was going through the woods cutting down trees. all i could think of is "man, if i made that robot I'd be PISSED!"
the way i figure it, a whole lot went into that robot. i mean there must have been a huge team of designers, engineers, and specialists assembling that robot. there were teams of people securing parts, lubricating fluids, fuel, software, as well as checking patents. people toiled day in and day out to get that big robot running. chances are it needs a lot of maintenance so there must be leagues of people ready to come out and fix it whenever the saw blades get dull, or it runs out of fuel.
then, one day, some saboteur from another insurance company comes by and decides the robot has to go. her bosses think the best way to compete in the insurance business is by literally destroying the competition. she lets loose with some small guided missile and ZAP... the robot is dead. she rides off into the sunset with a companion happy that the mission is complete. to play damage control, Esurance says:

it didn't look like much of a battle to me. it was more of an ambush followed by a missile attack. the "getaway" was pretty casual considering the robot was left a smoldering mess.
after all of this you still have to consider the landowner who allowed the forest to be cleared. he has a HUGE freaking mess to clean up. there's going to be lots of people that have to come in with cranes, flatbed trucks, and toxic spill kits in order to clean up the robot wreckage. eventually, the robot will either be repaired, or scrapped. no matter how you look at it there goes what has to be hundreds of millions of dollars in high technology all because some other insurance company was pissed off.
