    Default G35 v e36 m3

Well this is my first post so hey guys! But tonight me and my friend (billythekid310 it was his G35) were leaving a football game and we pulled up next to a Estoril Blue M3 at a stop light (it looked very clean have to give props to the driver) and just from what i could tell is it had an exhaust with a DTM tip. Then he looked at my friend and reved his engine up a little bit and Billy (my friend) responded in the same way. Billy didn't launch hard had it up around 1500 RPMs we both took off at the light and he was ahead by about 1/4 of a car length then as the rpms got up above 4000 RPMs we started to pull on him. When billy shifted into 2nd we were even but as we were both going through 2nd gear we were still pulling past him and by 3rd gear we were a car lenght ahead of him. It was a very fun race and a very clean M3!!!!

it should almost be a drivers race from a dig to about 80mph (edge to the Z) after 80mph the Z will outrun the G, but sure im down, say... 50mph pull?

Why is that? To me both cars seem equal in aerodynamics, and the g does have a bit more power if i remember right.

slightly different gearing, weight (G weighs about 250lbs more) , yes i beleive the new Gs are 298hp?... something like that, the Z also got a up in hp, 300hp but lost 16-20 lbft of torque.. in the end both the 287hp VQ and 300HP VQ have provided the car with the same top end.. howeve rthe 300hp one lost some midrange power. the G needed the torque more than the Z

I believe he was referring to the extra parasitic drivetrain losses due to AWD.

What year s4? If its one of those newer ones, i think it would take a g35 with ease.

What's the drivetrain loss on your bimmer?

On Evo's it's usually about 13% - 15% when comparing base factory #'s to the crank with dyno results on an AWD DynoJet.

I wouldnt say that is completely true. The drivetrain loss on 350Z's and G35's seem to be about the same as the Evo, stock they dyno around 230whp, that is a 50hp loss.

I do not know much about Evo's and whether they have particularly efficient AWD drivetrains, or are underrated from the factory, but I have seen many dyno's where S4's and WRX's are losing 20-22% compared to say 12% for rwd.

I'm pretty sure an S4 would outrun a stock or lightly modded 350z or G35. I believe they were stating that AWD is at a slight disadvantage on the highway because it is dead weight. AWD pays off in the launch, but once you get moving and the chances of wheel-spin are minimal the AWD car is now carrying the extra weight of the parts making up the AWD system of that particular car that the 2WD car is not.

I haven't looked recently, but I think S4s are actually pretty damned fast. The new ones are a tad heavier than their predecessor, but aren't they rated at something like 400 hp?

The newer ones a G35 wouldnt have a chance but I know I smoked a 2000ish S4 pretty bad when I was stock but that was from a roll.
