Default HELP! Reformat PS3 HD using USB HD Jacket on a PC....

so my HD on my PS3 "crashed" kinda.... and the reformat process on the PS3 isnt working.... so i read a bunch of articles online about using a laptop/PC to format the HD...

I bought a 2.5 HD Jacket and plugged it into my Laptop that is running Vista. the Laptop did not recognize the drive at all... so vista can only format using NTFS.... so I did. now the drive is readable and is on my laptop as drive F:

The HD MUST be formatted using Fat32.... Vista does not do that.

I DLed a program called Fat32format and tried it in the Command Prompt...

    C:\Users\owner\Fat32format F:

I hit "y" to format and it FAILED.... i even went in and changed all the rights in the program and drive F: so that OWNER can have ALL ACCESS rather than just the admin.... still didnt work

HOW THE **** DO I FORMAT THIS DAMN THINS IN FAT32 using VISTA!!!???!!

any other software i can DL??? XP doesnt do it as well....

i can plug it into a Linux system or ME and below but i dont know anyone running linux....

i can use a ME or below boot disk and format it off that but **** i dont have one lol....

anyone know of a program or anything i can do to fix this ****??

    Which PS3 do you have 20gb, 40gb, 60gb, or the 80gb?

60GB..... i dunno what happened. It froze one day and i turned it off in the back and turned back on and then it says disk corrupted and goes to reformat itself but repeats the reformat process everytime.... so the PS3 reformat process fails too.

    I got your answer.

I went though the same sh!t.
I run vista and I wanted my external 500 gb hdd to be compatible with my Ps3.
But vista would not fully format the HDD to to fat32.

A program called Swiss Knife will allow you to format any drive up to 1tb to fat32.

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...issKnife.shtml

Took me about 3 and a half days to find it but it worked. This should get yours up and running aswell.

After you format the drive to fat32 and install it. The PS3 will probably have to re-format the drive.

And if this doesn't work, then your drive or the ps3 might be defective.
Even with a clean drive the ps3 would be able to self format it...

Hmm thanks for the tip, I have a 350gb I want to use w/ my PS3, and I wonder what caused the corruption of your HDD since I have a 60gb also... Normally the 60GB's have no problems.
