Thread: oil pressure

    Default oil pressure

    is anyone here running an mechanical Oil pressure gauge? Autometer to compair to my situation;

    Mahdavi told me that they could not install my gauge beacuse with the 1st wheel hop or anything the sending unit will snap off?
    its in the top of the 3 pod pillar,same place buddy of mine is running his in his 97ek hatch.

    has anyone had any problems with the nylon line that they supply with the gauge or the sending units/brackets that hold the line?

    Nope, no problems. Mine is made by SunPro, and i've got mine installed in one of my Air conditioning vents. The only thing about it that is bad, i would say, is that i have a little crimp in my nylon psi line, and it sometimes makes my pressures look weird.

    Also, you HAVE TO have it either installed professionally, or you need to really know what you're doing with the installation, otherwise you may just be driving along and next thing you know, you see oil psi drop to 0, and you've got smoke and oil billowing/pouring out of the engine bay. This is talking from experience, lol.

    hate to break it to you but they are right.

    The mechanical Oil Pressure Sending units are just a T fitting that goes into the back of the block where the factory Oil pressure warning light/sensor is.

    The fittings are usually VERY brittle and ive seen 3 or 4 break off.

    Problem is when they break, you are ****ED because it dumps all your oil out very rapidly.

    they are talking about the SENDING UNIT aka T Fitting in the back of the block, not where the gauge is.

    LOL

    This is the same company that makes the A/F guage that tells you JACK SH!T about a/f ratios.

    NEVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER EVER run a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Spend the extra 50-100 bucks and get the electric one. It is easier to install and safer.

    Instead mounting the T right where the factory oil pressure switch, can't you just mount it on the fire wall, and run the line to the block? I don't see any problem doing this! Or you could use an oil filter sandwich. Isn't using the T only if you want both factory oil pressure and the gauge?

    You have to have the fatory thing. Its what keeps the pressure and the oil actually IN the engine, and its the sending unit that gives you the oil warning lamp in the dash when your pressure goes to 0.
