Mine had the 3 and I sent it in the box they ship you. I got mine back in like 10 days. I have a buddy who has been through 5 since he's had his and it just keeps messing up. If you say it has been messed up 4 times they will expedite one to him and it should be there like 3 days after he sends his off.
Where did he buy it? and did he get the warranty there? If its Gamespot, walmart (extended warranty only), best buy etc. they usually will trade it out for you with the warranty
we have 2 here, both red ringed, even our elite. which we cant send the elite back yet because it only red rings occasionally. If you send them the xbox and it doesn't red ring they charge you for repairs which is bull****

What do you mean occasionally? How many lights?
we get 3 red rings, and it'll lock up and it'll red ring for a few mins (turning it on and seeing if we can get it to work again) then it will just start working again. But now it just makes this loud beep sound (like a bios beep) and it freezes up and even still this is random. Normally I wouldn't be getting all pissed off about this but its cutting into to battlefield: Bad Company time and its a bit annoying

After the first 3 times I would of got rid of it and purchased a PS3 or got the PS3 without thinking twice about getting an Xbox

Do not do the towel trick. It completely voids any possiblilty that microsoft will work on it. If they see that it has gotten that hot they will just send it back and leave you with a dead box
Yup. I also heard that this is just a temporary fix and you will be SOL once it finally locks up for good.
Mine red ringed then wouldn't even power up... I'm not original owner but i convinced lady on phone to let me send it in anyway... they sent me a 'new' unit back (not brand new, but not my original xbox) and it works fine

ive had mine since Aug of '06 and have never had a problem out of it, have actually been considering selling it b/c im getting to where i dont play it that much anymore....my 5 yr old plays it more than i do

I've had to send mine in once. Got it back pretty quick, hadn't had a problem since. It had the 3 red lights, so i sent it in, I had only had it 5 months when it happen, and didn't even play it a whole lot. I was pissed, I haven't touched my Xbox 360 in so long,. It's all dusty.
My 360 went out the day i got gta4. One red light, not covered under unlimited warranty. Costs me $100 to get it fixed.

I got the 3 red lights and received a new Xbox 360 for free about a month later. I still think the 360 is a better choice for gamers over the PS3, unless you are a big movie buff and need blu-ray.

half of your posts are almost inconceivable. Anyways like every one has said call xbox, they send you a box, you ship it to them, they fix it and send it back all free of charge. Mine did it to me 6 months after i got it but hasn't done it since. I'm getting a PS3 here soon so I'll have the best of both worlds

Yea the new ones wont have that problem, but there will be more waiting. The 360 is a good console and all, but I would've thought MS would have worked out all the bugs. Most of my friends who've had one had to send it back multiple times. And anyone who says PS3's are garbage is a RETARD. Anyone who says a 360 is garbage is an idiot too, people just like making dumbass arguments for the sake of making dumbass arguments. On a side note, PS3's are better.
