which one do u perfer?
which one do u perfer?
Whats the goal here?
What sort of music do you listen to?
How much space are you willing to give up?
What is the budget?
What other supporting components will you have (battery(s), alternator (if necessary))?
What specific vehicle?
I personally like a good pair of tens for all around.... But, it depends a bit on some of the answers from the above questions.
i bet that took a lot of effort to be nice to this guy. haha. if you wouldnt have already posted that up he would have been severlyOriginally Posted by redgst97

140db is not that hard of a goal. I am glad to see that you are not being unrealistic with the goal. That is ACTUALLY a hard thing to do....know what you can/cannot do given parameters.
With the subs in the trunk, it will be "harder" to get 140+ db. Still, pretty easy to do, but just a bit harder. You can get 3 12s (sealed) to do that no problem. Since you say you listen to rap more, I might suggest 2 12s ported.
For a given woofer (typically speaking) a ported box will be approximately 50% larger than the comparable sealed box. For example, if a woofer's specs call for a 1.0 cubic foot box, the same woofer will "probably" spec out a 1.5 cubic foot box. please understand, this is ONLY a generalization....a starting point, if you will.
For $200, there are lots of choices for woofers. Even if you mean $200 for both (or $100 per woofer) $100 per woofer will make things a bit harder to do, but still very possible.
You should still factor in an enclosure, wire, parts, etc. Most installers can build a box that will maximize the performance of the woofer (with the vehicle, power, budget, and space limitations).
You wanna get really loud? Loose the back seats in favor of 6 12s or 15s....
I remember a Civic coupe with 6 Eclipse 12s that was LOUD! Also there was a 1996(ish) 4-door Accord with 6 Viper 12s that was also very loud. I would estimate both cars were well over 150+ db. NOT the kind of numbers the dedicated SPL guys do...these were both show cars, not competition cars....
im only shootin for a 140 db cause its a daily driver so i sort of want to keep the back seat and is there any way to hit 140 with one sub like 1 12, 15 , 18? and its quantum audio good for spl?

140 is easy with 1 sub, but the sub will cost you well over $200.
I am guessing I am close to 140 (depending on the meter) with my 2 MTX 4512's giving them about 300wrms a peice. In a car you would need a little more power than I have.
I have never used quantum audio so I cannot comment on them. If you just want it loud and dont care how it sounds, then look at the L7's. They sound absolutely horrible, but they can get quite loud.
yeah i was lookin at them and the power acoustik mofo and also the quantum 15 or the soundstream 15? but dont know how good quantum or soundstream is but i do want some sound quality and the mofo has decent sound quality

i went with 1 mofo if that aint what i expect than guess i will find a new sub thanx for your help john and jimmy
I just got a 8w7 in my TL and I'm happy with it.
sweet
im hiting 1 jl 12 com in a walmart box and a 400watt kenwood amp in my spyder eclipse -hatch back- it hit harder than 2 kicker com 12
I had and all off brand system in my 4-dr civic that pulled 153db.
it was 2 al 12"s with a 2500w class d monoblock soundstorm amp with a 5 farad cap running 4ga wire in a ported box with 1.5cf for each sub. I would FREQUENTLY set off car alarms. the whole setup cost me like $350 new.
Unless you got the meter you tested it with from walmart, you werent anywhere near 153.Originally Posted by slovic-fcc
setting off a car alarm is no big deal. I can do that with my exhaust. I have also done it with my 2 MTX 4512's and ~500 watts.
153? i doubt it i set off car alarms with my 2 mofo tens all day long not a big deal....
why would you use bass boost if you are hitting 153's? bass boost is nothing more than a clipped signal. Anyone with half a brain knows that.
u noticed he stopped postin after u said that?? lol
It is VERY irritating when people with no knowlege of the subject try to give advise.
back to subs.. :P
go 2 10's ftw.. love the quality and w/good amp/speaker combo you can get good power too..
i went with 1 15 just got to get a box now =\ southern sound cinema is makin me a custom box that is perfect for my car and sub \ and i trust them to do it cause the person makin it has 4 mojo 12's in a scion xb it hit a 148 on a term lab
I had 2 XXX 15's on 2500 watts and did a 147.3 on the termlab at 38hz.
i just want 140 and if i dont get 140 on a termlab well guess i will get another 15 and make a wall
you should be able to hit 140 with a well built box. Make sure it is tuned to the mid 30's though because any lower and it will peak too low and lose efficiency.
if you need 2 15's i got a set in a probox. all you need is an amp and you'll be set. it should be more than enough to push over 140 if you got the right amp.
i had 1 10, vented box and around 500w rms and hit 135, so 140 is not that hard with one speaker. just make sure all the components (sub, amp, box, and most important hu) match up to each other well. One of the greatest things i did bass wise was to buy a very good head unit (eclipse 7v preout, but no internal amplifiers) but i think 5v preout is plenty. get the sub-amp ohms all matched, rms powers matched, and it will sound tons better.

just to tell people i wont listen to anyone else really but bangin jimmy and john cause they do know what they are talkin about thanx jimmi i will make sure to tell him
1x15 thats all you need.. get a good amp and wires and you'll be set..
got good wire and great amps just need a box but its a goood chunk of change
When i was into audio I had a 2000 honda prelude with two kicker l7 square 10's in a sealed box. I had it tested at a car show/meet up and it made 144.6db i believe. I was running about 500rms to each of them i was also running a 2 farad cap with 0ga and dynomat all in the trunk. Im sure it would have been much louder but i kinda skimped on the box by getting a prefab.

thats why i listen to him haha anywayz i ordered the box today they are tunning it at 40 hz they said it should be LOUD but $168.87 it best be but they are good they fiberglass the inside and round all edges and make smooth as a babys A$$ so give me 2 days and i will tell u how it sounds
