AT 240sx trans problem

My friend is having trans problems on his 1990 240sx. It is an automatic.

He says that the trans can be shifted from park to reverse to drive without pressing the brake or pressing the button on the shifter. and now that the transmission can be shifted freely, the key wont come out the ignition.

Any ideas? he needs it done for the mountain run tomorrow

jk. but there should be some kind of mechanical switch that or sensor thing that tells the ignition that the car is in gear. since the shifter button and the brake pedal have no effect on changing gear, im guessing that whatever sensor or switch thing is there is stuck.

Ummm mine does it.....doesnt it do it while tha car is on or off? Mine will let me change gear freely, until i almost hit r form a drive gear. It will not go into reverse form a drive gear thank god, but is his doing it?
